Hi guys! I hope everyone’s been doing well and enjoyed my first post! Now this next post is something special to me.. in many ways! Not only is this post filled with amazing and unspeakably beautiful and exotic food pics (they taste sooo delicious too I promise!), but it was recently my birthday! And on my birthday I was blessed to be able to eat such amazing food. I want to say that this is my most favorite restaurant so far in terms of food, quality, service, and ambience!
Called Providence, Los Angeles, CA. It is located specifically in Hollywood and isn’t in the best neighborhood. In fact, it looks kinda ghetto and sketch, which made me hesitate for a second while we were trying to find parking..But of course the best restaurants always end up surprising you eh? Walking in, I felt like I stepped into a completely different world.. full of elegance, grace, and class.
Providence offers seasonal menus so most of the food pictures you see on Yelp aren’t going to be the same ones you will be served because their menus always change! I love it when restaurants do that! They offered the classic 4-5 course or the lengthy 20 course meal that takes 4-5 hours to complete!!! We chose the 20 course.. Hell let’s go balls out and eat the best! How often are we going to get to come back here anyways?? What’s best about this restaurant is that the chefs and waiters cater to your pace of eating! So it’s YOU who sets the pace of the entire course! :O (Also.. appetizer are called amuse here.. amusing huh? lols)
DISCLAIMER: the menu only displayed 12 course item descriptions, the other 8 were “surprises” based off of the chef’s mood and therefore, varies with special occasion and other tables. So the other 8.. I don’t quite remember what they were called.. but I do remember the main ingredients. Hehe.. So I’ll also be making up my own descriptions for fun! 🙂
clam cocktail, cucumber granita, oyster leaf (literally slipped it into your mouth like you’re taking an oyster shot.. very smooth and wet too!)
Quinoa and some kind of rice leaf tacos (they did call it tacos too..)
Crab-stuffed lagoons?? Crab stuffed something.. I keep thinking daikon for the wraps but it’s not..
I DON’T EVEN REMEMBER WHAT THIS WAS MADE OF… BUT IT WAS HOT AND DELICIOUS.. CAN ANYONE CARE TO GUESS AND HELP ME?? 😀
OYSTERS! For sure this is an oyster.. but from where..? 😀
It looks old and maybe unsanitary but it’s not.. it’s just the antique-y design.. and I just realized I forgot to check to see if that was real money on it..
Wagyu beef cigars!!!!! Served on some delicious light sriracha creamy sauce and a minty small leaf on top. The black slab of rock underneath was hot to touch!
Clam/seafood cream soup shot.. it was literally a shot of warm soup.. lightly salted and the taste of sea in your mouth. We had to make sure to swirl our shot cup well and take our shot in one gulp to get all the little sea creatures from the bottom too! 😉
wild new zealand john dory, english peas, hazelnut, asparagus
Cheers to my boyfriend for spoiling me <3
Wooden platter of artisanal breads! From left to right: seaweed, white, and brioche bread. They occasionally bring it back to ask if we want more bread. I kept thinking.. I totally lucked out that they came to us first so that I could take a picture of all the breads with no gaps.. haha 🙂
barely cooked spot prawn, chilled prawn gelee, kohirabi, herbs (FAVORITE DISH OF ALL TIME OUT OF ALL 20 COURSES.. SO DELICIOUS. IT WAS LIKE.. EATING SPOONFULS OF FRESH, LIGHT, ELEGANT CORAL REEFS IN YOUR MOUTH. IT JUST MELTS AND ALL THE FLOWERS AND PLANTS ARE A SOFT CRISP WITH THE SOFT, SOFT BARELY COOKED PRAWNS.. LUV <3
wild japanese saba, arugula, pine nut, fennel
australian spanner crab, sea urchin, royal ossetra caviar
(and 14k gold crumbled sheet on top!! when you cut into the delicate soft exterior of the poached egg, it is completely stuffed with crab inside! :O)
nancy’s day boat sea scallop, sunchoke, sunflower seed
(you know the scallop is cooked PERFECTLY when the insides are at the perfect balance of just cooked thoroughly but ever so soft enough to almost feel like it’s raw, BUT ITS NOT)
wild golden tilefish, turnip, hibiscus, indonesian spices
a5 wagyu, white aspargus, grilled favas, ume (my 2nd favorite dish.. Yes the meat is as fatty, juicy, and tender as it looks! and you can eat all the flowers on all the dishes too!)
artisanal cheeses, seasonal accompaniments (so many types of cheeses..brie cheese, blue cheese, everything i can’t remember! AHH but i remember there being buffalo cheese in there of some sort =x)
meyer lemon sorbet, osmanthus (favorite dessert! the crispy, toasty sugar cone on top contrasted perfectly with the soft, LIGHTER THAN AIR creamy texture of the sorbet)
chamomile, honey, pistachio, dijon mustard (while it didn’t taste bad, the dijon mustard flavoring in the ice cream was a bit weird to me.. GOOD, but weird.. I kept thinking this was a Chopped dish because it’s just weird to taste mustard in ice cream.. haha :D. NOTE: it LOOKED and tasted like a desert.. lols
butterscotch cremeux, banana bavarian, pecan (and compliments of the chef for a special third dessert as the birthday cake for me!!! The rose coloring of the plate totally threw me off because at first I thought it was the glow of some sheer, airy spread)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME <3 <3
free mint chocolate macarons, puffy marshmallow treats
and free pate de fruits. squishy and chewy in texture haha
“Morning after muffins” were what they called it.. HAHA.. do you get my drift? 😉 But it was so nice for them to go above and beyond and give something extra that is not just additional free dessert candy, but for the next morning to eat with coffee! (As an extension of dinner at Providence). What exceptional, thoughtful, and courteous service!! Even to us youngins, they respect. We’ve decided to make this an annual restaurant for my birthday!
And what did I do the next morning? Ohhh ! I enjoyed these delicious muffins with a hot cup of coffee.. Yummm. Oh boy.. I can’t wait until next year already.. turning another year older is worth it for this place.. You guys must try it!! <3
But if you can’t.. well heres a taste of Providence for you! Thanks for reading and “celebrating” my birthday with me! 🙂
