Mother’s Day Round 2! Because there is no such thing as too much spoiling for your mommy! And it doesn’t have to be confined to one day! After Sunday’s yummy feasts, I wanted to take my mother out again for some 1 on 1 personal quality time 😉 Yessss, just me and her! Because it’s been a while and what a better way than with good food! Made reservations and set our foot into Fig & Olive, West Hollywood, CA. The restaurant is located in a pretty decent outdoor shopping area, filled with a variety of shops (clothing, merchandise, designer bags) and many apartment homes! A lot of people stroll along the street and love to take a lunch break in this very fine restaurant! Service is courteous from the host, waiters, and busboys! And oh my, this is a good place to go for lunch from the ambience alone (very light and airy with white, bright furniture). I love their couches and puffy pillows! So comfy~ Mommy and I got tucked into a nesty corner with our private couches, puffy pillows and low-end marble table. This place has special seasonal menus with different items offered during brunch, lunch, and dinner hours. To celebrate the spring, their seasonal menu included many herbs and items suitable for springtime eating 🙂
This restaurant has the word olive in it.. and yes.. every single one of their dishes has a special, unique olive oil that brings a whole special aroma and taste to the dish. First off, they started us with a sampler of their 3 favorite olive oils of the day..
from left to right: picual olive oil from spain (intense and bold flavors), corratina olive oil from italy (green and forestry taste), arbequina from spain (light and buttery)
[i suggest started from right to left.. you know, taste the lighter flavors being plunging into the deeper flavors]
They’re known for their crostinis! We tried most of the ones offered during their lunch menu! bite size and fun size~ 😉
top (from left to right): 1) manchego, fig, marcona almond 2) pata negra, smoked tomato concasse 3) prosciutto, ricotta, fig, olive, walnut
bottom (from left to right): 1) octopus, hummus, pimenton 2) shrimp, avocado, cilantro, tomato 3) burrata, tomato, pesto, balsamic
burrata & asparagus – burrata, asparagus, snow pea, hazelnut, arugula, micro-basil blood orange dressing
WOW, this dish was not what I expected at all! It was a weird round bubble of jiggliness.. so I just had to take the first cut and see what happens.. nothing too explosively exciting at all.. but just so you guys can see the texture of this cheese….. 😀
ANDDDD…. WAIT FOR IT.. BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST!!!
truffle mushroom croquette – cremini mushroom, parmesan, bechamel – truffle olive oil aioli
OH MY GOD! THIS IS MY FAVORITE DISH OF ALL TIME. IT IS SO GOOD. DEFINATELY FUN SIZE HAHA. but seriously, the SOFT crispiness of the outside.. and when you just bite into it, the soft, creamy, smooth texture of the truffle and mushrooms just absolutely MELT. IN. YOUR. MOUTH.
mMmMm..
riviera salmon – seared salmon, grilled asparagus, braised fennel pea puree with arbequina olive oil emulsion, lemon zest
(served medium rare and extremely flaky, soft, and smooth on the inside; great contrast with the hard, thick, crispy layer on top)
rosemary lamb – grilled lamb on rosemary skewers, bell pepper, greek yogurt, honey couscous with fig, red onion, scallion, tomato
(feels mediterranean and feels guilt-free to eat, especially with that greek yogurt spread)
chocolate pot de creme – served with crunchy praline financiers and vanilla cream
This was so good too!!!! Make sure you dig your spoon all the way down to scoop the dark chocolate from the bottom.. or better yet, why not give it a spoony mix and just drip your praline cookie in it!)
clementine vacherin – served with blood orange coulis, clementine sorbet, white chocolate mousse and meringue
And did I mention that I got her drunk?! LOL JK. But she did get quite tipsy! Complimentary white wine to her! Cheers to you mommy! 🙂
And Happy Mother’s Day again! Thanks for reading you guys! Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies out there! <3 <3
