McCormick and Schmick’s, San Francisco, CA, was a restaurant designed in the early 1990s in hopes to capture the essence of the near waterfront located just a few blocks down: Fisherman’s Wharf. The design of this restaurant is a breathtaking surprise when you first set foot inside. The interior decor is themed to be the inside of a great ship, with great glass windows on one side that allow the guests to face the San Francisco Bay while eating. The walkways and the tables and the handrails are crafted in wood to resemble walking along the decks of a ship. The outside gives no hint to what the inside looks like. It’s like you escaped into another world and can see the outside waters from the inside. With a vibrant imagination, enjoying dinner in this make-believe ship was easy <3 What more, the dim lighting of the restaurant allowed for a romantic and mystic ambiance for dinner.
lobster bisque – Maine lobster meat – Huge chunks of lobster are hidden underneath this creamy and thick soup. Every single spoonful found at least 1 big chunk or 2 smaller pieces of lobster. I love this soup in general and from here, I love it even more.
fried calamari – I forgot what sauce was included because it’s been a while but I remember a light and creamy taste.. Maybe cilantro based? The calamari was chewy and lightly breaded before fried.
side of exotic mushroom saute – This was a savory surprise and would go well to complement any entree. Mushrooms retain juicy flavors well and this had a salty essence with a hint of spice.
pan seared dry packed sea scallops – I enjoyed this bed of scallops the most! The seared top allowed for a light crispy texture for the skin until you break into its soft, smooth, and buttery insides.
halibut special – I don’t remember the seasoning that complements this fish but it was one of their seasonal dinner specials for the day! Believe me when I say the halibut was tender and flaky!
McCormick and Schmick’s has expanded widely in the U.S. and exists among multiple states so if you ever want to try this place, don’t let distance stop you from doing so! This restaurant is a fantasy escape into a romantic sea ship. <3
