Have you guys ever tried Dutch pancakes? Believe it or not, but Dutch pancakes are very different from our traditional American pancakes. In fact, they are WAY better! Why is that? Sure, American pancakes have revolutionized from the simple flour pancakes topped with syrup to the more festive pancakes with fruits and whipped cream on top. But that’s all there is too it. What?! It gets crazier?? Now imagine Dutch pancakes infused with savory and sweet flavors within the pancakes themselves! So not just the toppings and ingredients.. It’s cooked with and within the pancakes so these flavorful pancakes can be eaten by itself! Of course, the syrup always add the additional sweet twist. <3 In Amsterdam, Netherlands, The Pancake Bakery was opened in 1973 in one of the 3 buildings called Hoop or Hope. This is one of the buildings that was owned by the Dutch India East Company.. Does that ring a bell at all from what we’ve learned in history? When the Pancake Bakery opened up in this building, they saved all of the building’s features and decorations to keep the reminiscence and ambiance of the past. Cool huh? Now let’s get on to the food because me starving for some delicious eye-porn breakfast!
pancake with bacon, cheese and mushrooms. Okay. It looks plain and definitely very different from our American pancakes. For one, they’re not fluffy. The pancake is more flat, almost like a one-layer omelette or crepe. But if you look closely at the picture, you can see the bacon trying to pop out or parts of the mushroom protruding. Inside the pancake, and you can definitely tell from the middle, there is melted cheese.. Yumm.. This was the tastiest pancake I have ever eaten! It was so good. So savory, delicious, moist, flavorful. I didn’t even add syrup. You can eat it by itself. And you know what the best part is? Even the parts of the pancake that doesn’t have any cheese, bacon, or mushrooms have the flavors of cheese, bacon, and mushrooms infused within the pancake dough itself!! How? Because the pancake was cooked WITH the ingredients so the flavors were infused within the pancake. That’s the best part 🙂
brazilian pancake – pancake with walnut ice cream, mocha sauce, Amaretto, almonds and whipped cream. And we have our dessert pancake! Cooked the same way and topped with ice cream even! It was the perfect way to eat a breakfast dessert!! Haha, get it? 😉
All in all, hands down.. Dutch pancakes > American pancakes! Sorry! Nope.. not so sorry! 🙂
