My very first time going to Santa Barbara with my cousins and I had high hopes for many uni! There’s this place called Santa Barbara Fish Market that’s supposed to have a lot, according to my cousin. He said that there was this one seafood/sushi restaurant in Houston, Texas in which they eat the most bomb fresh uni ever! And according to the restaurant, their sources of fresh uni is from this very fish market.. And so while they visited Los Angeles, CA, their sole purpose of driving a few hours from LA to SB was to horse down tons of fresh uni from this fish market.. And so we went..
spicy tuna poke. Unfortunately, it was good.. but not BOMB. There was nothing too special about it! I think we could definitely make better poke at home.. =/
There were only TWO live uni’s left!! WHAT?! Just two! We came right before noon time, and they said they were already all sold out.. Only two.. So we got the last two, and boy, were they tiny!!! Two small tiny uni 🙁 How disappointing!!! These are the smallest fresh uni I have ever eaten!!! Only 4 pieces of uni per shell. It tasted good and fresh, but definitely not enough to feed the 4 of us, let alone satiate our fresh uni cravings!! The workers said that the next batch of fresh uni would probably be tomorrow or just whenever there is high tide. Their advice is to come EARLY in the morning. Apparently, the Santa Barbarans come EARLY and get all the fresh uni! Tip for next time! 🙁
