My boyfriend has been telling me about this infamous crepe cake, a cake made solely of just crepe layers: “millions” of crepes with cream in between gracefully piled on top another to form a cake. Wow. That sounds so majestic. So we chose a random Saturday for him to take me to Beverly Grove just to try this place. As we parked and walked down the street towards the infamous Lady M Cake Boutique, our stomachs were growling. We looked at each other and knew the other was also hungry. We turned towards our left to look at this nature-themed restaurants and can hear the clings and clangs of chinaware inside. Omg we’re hungry!! “Wanna try this place? It looks brunchy. We can grab a small bite and get crepe cake after as our dessert.” “Okay!!! That’s so smart.”
That’s what being a foodie means. We listen to our stomachs. We speak and eat food. And we get sidetracked by food. And so we stepped into this Frenchy bar restaurant. When a restaurant serves tapas, you can almost tell right away by the ambience of the place. How? I can’t explain. But I knew they’ll have cheese too. I don’t know what a.o.c. stands for, but that is where we ate.
We were lucky enough to be seated in an isolated table under an archway, right in the opening from the inside to the outside. It was great to have views of both, depending on which direction our heads were turned at.
fresh squeezed lemonade and “mock” goddess (green tea, cucumber, arugula, lime juice, jalapeño). Both were delicious.
vintner’s lunch (rillettes, cheese, cured meat, pickles, roasted grapes and grilled toast). There is too much going on there!! It looked so cool at first glance, but everything is kind of just randomly hidden in there like an edible forest.
See those small pickles in the front? Those are my favorite! What kind of pickles are they?!
duck confit hash, wild mushrooms and poached eggs. This was delicious! Looked kind of dry at first until I finally broke into the poached egg. I sent the gooey egg yolks to ooze everywhere! The duck was very well seasoned; not to mention also tender and soft.
This was more than just a small snack! We were stuffed!!! But.. we originally came for crepe cake.. and crepe cake we will still get. There is always room for dessert!!
So we paid the bill and walked over next door to the brightly white bakery that is serving our long awaited dessert!
They serve a variety of cake delicacies.. I thought it was JUST crepe cakes, but everything there looks so delicate, unique and delicious. But I must stick to my original decision!!!!
Guess which two we got!! 🙂
green tea mille crepe – twenty crepe layers enveloping pastry cream with green tea flavors pastry cream. I love green tea and I knew I must try this one!!! There are twenty layers in that.. can you believe it? It was soooo good! It’s amazing how you can taste, feel and chew on all the crepe layers at the same time!!! The green tea tasted like matcha tea! The whole cake was so soft and delicate.
signature mille crepe – twenty paper-thin handmade crepes layered with light pastry cream. Oh my god!! This is even better than the green tea one!!!!! My mind is blown from one surprise after another!!!!! This is just so good and it’s too hard to explain how the simplicity of this milk cream just totally gave me twenty orgasms in my mouth!!!! It was so creamy and light. The crepe layers were all so delicate and graceful. I definitely want to come back for more!!
Sigh.. until we meet again Lady M. <3
