Eating sashimi at restaurants is pretty pricey for even just one meal. The prices for top-quality fresh fish is ridiculous! Now what if I were able to tell you that there is a place where you can not only get good quality fresh sashimi, but also at a pretty cheap place?! There is a small, family-owned Japanese market located in San Gabriel, CA called Yama Seafood that serves not only fresh fish, but also a limited assorted rolls and other Japanese groceries. However, I recommend coming only for the fish because the other groceries are expensive!!
Freshly cut octopus! So the Japanese man that always cuts everyone’s fish is so nice! There are many displays of different cuts and sizes of fish that you can choose from. After choosing your cut, he takes it and neatly slices it into edible pieces for you! Our first pick was an octopus tentacle! I also spy some fatty tuna pieces on top! He tends to be generous and adds free pieces of fish with your order! The octopus was very chewy and soft!
Look at the presentation of the salmon and tuna pieces! His presentation is really nice, especially considering this is all for take out! The fish pieces were nicely cut, tasted fresh and cheap! I forgot the exact pricing but I think that whole tray was about $10-15 total! That’s so cheap!
He also has another worker that will make assorted rolls too! This is one of my favorite rolls from that market!
I think this was just $4-5! Fresh salmon and avocado rolled together. I like these bite-size rolls because they’re easy to eat!

So if you’re ever craving sushi or fresh sashimi and need to be nicer to your wallet, I suggest you check out this market! Who cares if you don’t eat at a restaurant! Just take it to-go and enjoy it at home! Way cheaper and you save money on tipping also! š
