At KazuNori, also called The Original Hand Roll Bar, one can eat delightful hand rolls that are simply hand rolled to exquisite perfection. There are only three simple things about these special hand rolls that are accomplished every time I’ve visited this place: the crispy nori, the warm rice, and the fresh fish. Just those three things. How hard can it be to mess up? Pretty easy actually. Out of all the sushi places I have tried, I only return to this one over and over again to eat their hand rolls. Also called temaki in Japanese, these hand rolls aren’t even anything fancy. They just have those 3 ingredients!! But yet there is always a line outside the restaurant (even on weekdays). Is it worth? It’s worth.
They serve sake! These One Cup Ozeki sake cups are the perfect drinks to complement your meal! They’re not that strong, but strong enough to give you a good tipsy or buzz. Not to mention, these cups are so cute! And completely reusable! If you pay this place a visit, ask to keep their cups 🙂 They will let you!
KazuNori is very simple and serves only hand rolls, but with the exception of sashimi. Their salmon sashimi is an appetizer that you can choose to get to slowly nibble on in between your hand rolls. Just like its cousin, Sugarfish, their salmon is very soft and tender. The shoyu sauce is mildly salty and sweet. The sesame seeds add that extra crunch.
toro hand roll. Here is the first hand roll! As you can tell from the picture, the hand roll is very, very simple. As I said earlier, it is made of three key ingredients: seaweed, rice, and fish. So why and how does it taste so darn good? The seaweed is always, always served crispy, fresh, and perfectly rolled. The rice is always warm and sweet. The fish is always fresh and of good quality. It is advised to eat the hand rolls served to you RIGHT AWAY because if you let it sit there, the warm rice will make the seaweed soft and soggy. The hand rolls won’t be as enjoyable anymore. These are meant to be eaten fresh and right away. And the first bite is always the best bite! It’s when the seaweed is still at its utmost crispiest!! The seaweed is so fresh and crispy, your teeth bites through the hand roll easily and dig into the soft rice and fish.
salmon hand roll. I don’t think I need to talk about each fish. It is obvious that everything served here is of grade A+ quality!
scallop hand roll. The scallop is lightly mixed with some kewpie mayonnaise. Delicious delicious. Soft and creamy bay scallops!
crab hand roll. This is always my favorite to eat every single time I go here. The crab is real crab! No way would a place like this serve imitation crab! Nuh uh!! The hair crab is very fresh. Its texture and taste is almost like tuna from tuna sandwiches, BUT BETTER! Don’t be fooled; it’s very good.
lobster hand roll. I love the chewy chunks of lobster in it. 🙂
So the layout of this restaurant is different compared to other sushi restaurants. The bar table is in the shape of a giant U with the sushi chefs in the inside and everyone sitting at the bar table facing in. Very efficient and modern. The seats are high stools. Ladies, don’t worry! There are hooks under the bar table at each seat for you to hang your purse underneath!
The other small entrance to the restaurant is for take out only. Yes, a lot of people do order take-out and you will finally understand why take-out at this place is still SO UNBELIEVABLY DELICIOUS:
bay scallop hand roll. My boyfriend was a sweetheart and brought me take-out on one of the days I had work. This first take-out box consists of bay scallop hand rolls, which they finely cut into small pieces for you and present it in the more familiar form of sushi. Look at the cute decor of the simple take-out box, the small soy sauce holder, and the 3 side condiments neatly packed up!! This made it so convenient to eat as take-out! You can practically eat this anywhere!!! Not only is the food just as good as take-out many hours later, but the presentation of take-out food has not lost its mark!!! Bravo to you KazuNori! <3
toro hand roll, crab hand roll, lobster hand roll, cucumber hand roll (from left to right, top to bottom). So pretty.. I cannot stop staring at this picture.. 🙂
KazuNori is a place I routinely visit to eat either lunch or dinner. The prices are somewhat decent (thought slightly on the more expensive side), but it is so, so good that one cannot stop going back for more and more. I can never get sick of this place and I can never stop craving it. Even while blogging about it, I want to go back again! I like to call myself an occasional regular at KazuNori. 😀
