Brigham Fish Market is a family-owned market that sells Columbia freshly-caught and smoked salmon every single day. In Portland, we made a detour stop to the the Columbia river that separates Oregon and Washington from each other. The Columbia river is where you will find an abundance of lively salmon waiting to be caught and eaten by us. π Brigham Fish Market has other seafood such as Oregon ocean-caught crab, oysters, and fish but their fame comes from the smoked salmon and sturgeon (too bad sturgeon was sold out for me). Their market is right next to the Columbia river and they fish their salmon from the Columbia river!
Here is a panoramic picture of what they sell!! As you can see, the majority of their product is salmon, salmon, salmon!
This is their house-made spicy salmon dip. It was intensely thick and creamy (like salmon cream cheese). There are many actual bits and pieces of smoked salmon hidden in there. If you love chips with dip, then buy some of their crackers and enjoy this daily fresh spread. (Don’t let the red chili peppers alarm you. It was falsely spicy and only gave a small kick)!
Hey, if you eat with me and we’re traveling somewhere, we ARE going to get a little bit of everything because who knows when the next time will be? Especially in Portland, Oregon! So here we have our pounds of smoke salmon of different parts, salmon chowder and salmon dip!
Here is some of our smoked salmon belly fillet. As you can see, they smoke the salmon in its natural parts! We purchase them like this! This is unlike the smoked salmon I would purchase from any type of food market. This seems legit so far. π
Smoked salmon chowder is only available Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends. We didn’t even think to check ahead of time and thank god luck was on our side that day! How shameful would it be if we couldn’t try their smoked salmon chowder. I admit it does look like clam chowder in the picture, but it smells and tastes like smoked salmon chowder.
I think this is their famous smoked salmon collar that everyone tries to get?! Even calls ahead of time to see if they have any or to pre-order for pick up. We ordered 3lbs and unluckily for unknown phone caller, there wasn’t any left for him that day. I normally don’t gnaw at a piece of fish and bones, but in this case I ate with my teeth, mouth and fingers. It was too good to try to eat proper. I think the whole experience requires eating it in the raw. This is the juiciest part of the salmon smoked.
I don’t think pictures can do justice to how delicious the collar looked like in real life, but I’m trying to give you an idea! The salmon was just so rich and abundant in flavors and smokiness. Thanks to the availability of fresh salmon from the river and to the family’s highly skilled smoking abilities, this smoked salmon collar is the best salmon I have ever eaten.
And as a side note for those who are scared of the fishy smells, you don’t have to worry about it here! They do a good job cleaning their caught salmon (in addition to the fact that it is caught in one of the cleanest and best rivers in the world). And you know what is even better? Their customer service! π They package your fish for you. They even seal your fish in a plastic bag and give you another bag of ice if you say you have a drive up ahead of you!
Thank you Brigham Fish Market for some unbelievable good salmon! <3
