Sweet Heart Dessert House has been open for some time now in the city of Rosemead. This dessert cafe specializes in Hong Kong-style and fruit-based desserts that you won’t find anywhere else! Such as durian, mango, glutinous rice balls, yam, taro, black sesame and more.. The list is endless and the variety of types of desserts and drinks offer is literally endless! Once you flip through the pages and pages of dessert menus, it’ll be hard to make up your mind of what to choose!
The decor of the place may be a mix-match of cute black decal on white walls with old, picnic-style chairs and tables, but that is not why you’re there (Nor even care). You just want good and light Asian dessert that’s hard to find elsewhere. I’ve gone a handful of times and it’ll take many more visits to get a comprehensive taste of everything, but here are some of the desserts I’ve tried.. and they were all delicious.
purple yam and taro with coconut sago. The purple ice cream is actually the yam!!! I’ve been introduced to the yam as a dessert concept with this place!! At first I thought it was taro! The cold yam ice cream was a perfect contrast with the warm coconut sago. This is comfort dessert for the Asians for sure!
durian ecstasy – durian, green tea ice cream, taro balls, crystal jelly. And boy was the ecstasy part of the dessert name certainly true. In all it’s glory, the durian was indeed the star of the show. Didn’t smell at all and the taste was pleasantly good.
purple yam, taro balls, sweet potato balls, coconut sago. I love everything with coconut sago in it! Now let’s add some sweet potato to the mix 🙂
mango sweet rolls. What an interesting concept to put mango into a sweet roll. If you can’t tell, there is very light sweet white puff cream inside. It was as light and smooth as.. I don’t know but it tasted very good! Lightly sweet.
purple yam and taro with tofu pudding. This is my favorite dessert of all that I’ve tried so far! Everything just blended together perfectly. Soft and sweet taro balls and sweet potato balls on warm tofu pudding and topped with cold yam ice cream! Blisssss
sweet black sesame soup. And who can say no to the simple black sesame? This is probably every Asians favorite! Comfort to the stomach and soul.
So if you’re looking for some Hong Kong dessert or just some mildly sweet dessert or a casual cafe to catch up at, this place might just hit that spot! Don’t forget to bring cash though .. Yes, they’re that Asian! 🙂
