Our first day landing in Phuket was kind of a struggle. They were already trying to scam us right from the airport!!!! It seems like people scam more in Phuket than in Bangkok from my personal experience. I don’t know if it’s true in general. But after finallllyyy getting to our hotel, we decided to randomly walk around and explore the streets and beaches of Phuket.
We ran into a mall with a food court plaza that would only accept payment in the form of a cash card. So everyone had to line up to put baht money in the card before being able to purchase anything in the food court. All of the food options were traditional Thai entree dishes including other cultural food such as Chinese and Japanese and Indian.
Our first dish was Thai Penang curry. It didn’t come with a side of white rice. You have to order that as extra. The curry was more liquids in texture than I would have liked but the chicken was pretty good.
Pad see ew beef was probably my favorite dish from what we ordered in this plaza. The noodles were soft, the beef well cooked and the flavors were there! Very saucy also.
This was the pan fried oyster pancake! This dish had the prettiest presentation out of all our entrees. It was also very good! They were very generous with the eggy pancakes.
The seafood papaya salad was a refreshing and cool dish to eat after all the hot foods we have been eating. Nothing too special about this one!
We finally continued to take a walk down the streets and got some coconut juice as a dessert.
This coconut was huge and sooo heavy to hold!!!! So much coconut juice and if you look on the inside, there is a thick layer of coconut waiting to be scraped off and eaten!
We finally decided to stop by and get some cocktails at this tiger themed bar right on the streets. Some sweet margarita, pineapple cooler and a White Russian. All were delicious drinks and pretty strong too!!! We had a really relaxing time.
After getting a Thai massage and falling asleep.. this was my first time falling asleep during a massage! Boy I must have been super tired. Actually I was insanely tired! The jet lag is not treating me well.
We saw an outdoor restaurant that advertised all the food to be 100baht or less. So why not. Cheap good Thai food is the way to go! And I liked sitting outside in plastic chairs. It makes me feel like I’m trying to live in their third world country.
We ordered some pad see ew beef (again because I love it), chicken and tofu pad Thai, beef fried pancake and coconut curry with white rice. All of the dishes are really good!!!! My favorite this time was the chicken and tofu pad Thai! Maybe because SOMEONE didn’t drench it in like this time! But there was a lot of flavor, a lot of noodles and a lot of tofu.
So.. I think I like Bangkok food a lot more than Phuket food!!! I like the street skewers and that type of eating more than sit down and imitating restaurant style.
So for today my plan is to take the speed boat tour to the James Bond Island, snorkel at Khai island, kayak in Panang Island, check it Hong Island for the lagoon and caves, and Rang Yai Island.
Yay! Can’t wait! 🙂
