Good morning good morning!! Earlier this month on the 5th of January, K Sandwiches re-opens their grand opening in Linda Vista, San Diego after being burned down three years ago. It first opened up in 2006 and was the go-to spot for Vietnamese sandwiches, baguettes, treats and drinks in San Diego. Now after being deprived of yummy Vietnamese food since 2015, it finally re-opens even bigger and better than before! The first weekend of the grand re-opening was CRAAAZY busy with so many people! Even the Eater newscast was there to capture the exciting hype to eat K Sandwiches again.
I personally went on a Saturday morning at 9-10am ish. There was already a long line out the front and I think I waited in line for about 45 minutes. By the time we got to the cashier to order, we were told that they were all out of baguettes and that it would take another 30 minutes for the next batch of fresh baguette. I didn’t mind; the upside would be to eat ridiculously fresh bread!
The people who finally trinkled into the line at 11-12ish would be waiting for hours I would imagine! At that time, I was barely getting my sandwich. This is to account that they are already behind on bread.. imagine how much longer the people in line would be waiting for? The line just got longer.. It was ridiculous!
Some pre-packaged fresh spring rolls to munch on while waiting! These were the four types of spring rolls they had that day laid out.
Some sugar cane drink. Incredibly sweet and tasty.
These dough-y white sesame coated balls with red bean on the inside. Hot and freshly baked!
This was the marinated pork banh mi. Not my personal favorite, but the boyfriend likes this one.
For me, my favorite one and only banh mi I always only eat is the dac biet since I was a child. It comes with Vietnamese sweet butter, French pork pate, Vietnamese pork ham (gio), Vietnamese BBQ pork belly and pickled carrots, daikon and cucumbers, green bell peppers and cilantro. The baguette was very good, but I personally don’t like the hugely chopped pickled radishes! I’m used to the smaller fine-chopped radishes! Other than that, it’s good. Definitely the best in San Diego, but maybe not AS comparable to Irvine and 626!!!
But still good! I would come back after the hype and the line dies down!
