Good morning in Kyoto! Or I was in Kyoto yesterday!! We started our day checking out of Kyoto and doing some more touristy stuff. For a quick breakfast, I got a cute bento box to eat at the Fushimi Inari Shrine. I can’t believe that there is a subway station stop literally at the front of the shrine. The stop was made to drop people off at the shrine!!!
I got this bento box for 670yen. Isn’t it cute?! The food was all cold but yummy! I learned that in Japanese culture, it is rude to eat hot foods on the train or bus. Maybe thats why everyone eats their food cold then.
We went early at 7-8am to avoid the heaps of large crowds! Even at that time, there were already lots of people! It was easy to take pictures though.
After the shrine, we took the train back to main Kyoto station to walk to Nishiki Market, which opens at 9am. I loved NishikiMarket! I like it more than Tsukiji because I feel like here are more little things I can get as munchies. Feels more like street food to me.
Yummy squid for 350yen!
Grilling it on the spot for us. The squid was well marinated.
Uni here is super cheap! Way cheaper than America. I got this line of uni for just 1300yen!
This fresh uni out of its home is 450yen.
Fresh marinated live octopus with lemon for 250yen.
Takoyaki for 500yen.
Chicken and green tea croquette for 270yen.
This is my favorite ice cream flavor!! Matcha and roasted green tea soft serve and roasted green tea soft serve. It was sooooo goood!
On the way from walking back to Kyoto Station, we stumbled upon a hidden gem that will soon blow up on Instagram and social media. This place has only been open for 3 months and it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s called Walden Woods Kyoto. There are no words to describe how breathtakingly beautiful and industrial this place looks in person! No pictures can tell either.
The painted tile wood and the lanterns.
Some more snacks for the 2.5hr train ride back to Tokyo.
BOBAAAAA
Milk tea foam on green tea with boba.
KOBE STEAK! Got this for 1200yen. It was so good! So juicy and fatty and tender and soft. Ugh so good. Food is definitely still cheaper here than in America. No tax and no tip too!
Another cool ramen place. This one is really cool. Watch….
Check this out: each bar seat has an iPad in front to self order. Then the waiter brings your food for you. How cool is that??
Tonkotsu ramen with boasting red sauce and black garlic oil. This was sooo good. Hands down this is my favorite ramen so far! The noodles are firm and chewy. The broth was fatty and savory. The chasu was tender.
The Shibuya crossing was crazy! The subway station stop is RIGHT HERE and tons of bus stops. Just so much transit. And so many tourists getting high up on other buildings to video or camera the crossing. At every light, there are tons of people crossing 5 crossways at once in every direction. There are always people running too! Literally sprinting! This entire shibuya is like Vegas or Times Square. There were lights everywhere. Shops everywhere. Restaurants everywhere. People everywhere. Just a lot of life!
