It’s been almost a month and I still miss Japan. I would say Japan is one of the few countries that I would visit again and again even before being done exploring the rest of the world. In fact, I think I’m going to go again next year!
One of the great things about exploring aimlessly in a foreign country is when you accidentally stumble upon a hidden gem. Without even trying, my boyfriend and I came across a very recently new coffee shop that was built for Instagram. Called Walden Woods Kyoto, it has only been around for 4 months now.
Everything about this place is so industrial, clean, simple and white. If you look closely, they use cheap wood material but with simple white paint over everything, it looks so aesthetically pleasing.
Walking around the Kyoto streets, we saw many small houses. Suddenly out of the blue, this white corner stands out from all the other colors. Of course, it’s in the middle of the day on a weekday so it’s empty. But it draws us in.
Turns out it is coffee! They freshly brew their coffee on the spot and you can see them hard at work.
(Less writing and more pictures. This appearance of this place alone speaks volumes).
Here are the stairs with lanterns leading up to the unknown. After they finished brewing our coffees, they placed them into light tin cylinder plates for us to bring our coffees up. We didn’t know what to expect!!!!
This was the entire room! Imagining walking upstairs and you’re suddenly engulfed in this white, industrial fantasy world where you can drink your coffee. It’s like stepping into another world for that brief moment of wakefulness.
The beautiful windows give perfect views of the high bloom cherry blossom trees!
This is the first time my blog is full of pictures not of food, but I still thought it was blog worthy. I actually secretly ordered a coffee I didn’t like!!!! I can’t drink black coffee and I was so excited with finding this place that I didn’t look at the menu carefully. I ordered some black coffee with flowers in it thinking it would be sweet but it was still black coffee to me. The boyfriend enjoyed and appreciated black coffee though so I made him drink mine!
If I had planned on coming to a place of this beforehand, I would have definitely dressed up cuter. But the environment screams beauty in itself already. And thank god for the timing, it was literally almost empty! Imagine trying to take Instagram photos in here with loads of people.
In another aspect, the decor and layout of the room allows for a completely different style and aspect to sitting and drinking and chatting over coffee. It’s more casual and different. Not your usual tables and chairs.
I love this place! Next year, I’m going to find this place again.
