The second morning in Chicago was the bean!! Or the Cloud Gate. We walked over to Wildberry Pancakes & Cafe through a friend’s suggestion and ordered an order of pancakes for take-out. The take-out order took about 15min long; otherwise, it was about 1.5hr wait.
This is Marian and me holding our bag of takeout pancakes!
We’re about to enjoy our pancakes right in front of the bean! Eat and people watch 🙂
“Signature Berry Bliss” pancakes. These were one of the more popular pancakes to eat so we ordered this. The pancakes were huge! Soft and fluffy.
After the bean, we walked over to Pizzeria Uno, the original deep-dish crust pizza. We put our name down for about 1hr wait and also pre-ordered the pizza too since it also takes about 40-45 mins for them to bake the pizza for us. Deep-dish pizzas take forever!!!
Numero Uno. Extra cheese, an abundant of fresh sausage, just the right amount of pepperoni, fresh mushrooms, onions and green peppers. This pizza is a lot more vibrant than Lou Malnati’s with a lot more vegetables. However, the crust is softer.
After pizza, we went to Sawada Coffee. Actually first we put our name down for Au Cheval and THEN went to Sawada Coffee to start our 3.5hr wait countdown.
I lOVEEEE the ambiance of Sawada Coffee!! They share joint space with the bar in the middle, the smoky foods in the back… the “secret” ramen shop downstairs..
Here are our coffees!
Spiced bourbon hot cider. Cider, bourbon, chai spice. They had a small menu of 5 boozy coffees to choose from.
Black camo latte. Roasted green tea. You can smell the roasted green tea.
Military latte. With matcha tea. This was a very creamy, matcha sweetness coffee!
Benedictine and chai boozy steamer. Benedictine, chai, milk.
Let’s walk some more! Back to downtown and crossing a bridge..
We went to Cindy’s, which is a second floor bar across the street from the bean. From there, we enjoyed a very nice view of the bean and people-watched the little “ants” moving around..
AND 3.5HR LATER, we are finally at Au Cheval.
Chocolate Martini. Godiva dark, Tito’s, Bailey’s.
Crispy potato hash with duck heart gravy. THIS WAS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD! The hash browns were thin and crispy. The duck meat and heart gravy was so savory.
Thick cut peppered bacon. These are THICK pieces of bacon! It was essentially pork belly. The only thing is, it is on the sweeter side.
Double cheeseburger. AND HERE IS THE LEGENDARY 3.5HR WAIT DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER, WHICH ACTUALLY HAS 3 PIECES OF BEEF IN IT. IT WAS 10000X BETTER THAN IT LOOKS. IT WAS SO. FREAKING. DELICIOUS.
I think there is gouda cheese in it.
At night time, we went to Mindy’s Hot Chocolate. This was a sister recommendation to try, full of delicious boozy hot chocolate.
Fernet grasshopper. Chocolate mint hot chocolate, letherbee fernet, creme de cocoa, 10yr brandy, chocolate bitters. A classic desert drink.
Old fashioned. Medium hot chocolate, milk chocolate cocoa nib whipped ganache, marshmallow in cup.
The boozy. Dark chocolate with a shot of brandy. This was mine 🙂 Look at my marshmallow!
Yummm Yummm.
