Whoa! The last morning in Chicago was a bittersweet one. While I was excited to go back to the comfort of my own home, I was a bit sad that i could not eat at every single place that I aimed to. I probably hit 90% of it. But honestly, it is impossible in the short 4-5 days we had. Actually, I think we made extremely good time to eat at all the places we wanted to do, considering we also booked The Aviary last minute!!! That was such a pleasant surprise!!
This morning, we randomly walked over to Whispers Cafe while on the way to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria for the second time. We all each got either coffee or juice to start off the day with.
Here is my iced mocha!
At Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, we got the exact same pizza that we did two days ago. But we went to a different location! This location was right in the heart of downtown where all the glamorous shopping is.
Fried calamari to start 🙂
The Classic Chicago Deep Dish pizza one last time.. We each ate one quarter of a slice.. And that was enough to make us all more than full! I just loved how different their pizzas are from ours. They dress it in a different order. The toppings are underneath. The sausage is actually a huge chunk of slice instead of small little ones. The tomatoes are all fresh and chopped too!! You get fresh pieces of tomatoes instead of a pre-made marinara sauce. It’s fresh tomato sauce!!
I loved drowning my slice with white Parmesan and red chilli peppers.
After pizza for breakfast, we enjoyed a 1.5hr architecture river cruise tour to learn about the history of Chicago’s buildings. It was a very enlightening lecture and I was very interested with the different structural foundations of many of the buildings. My favorite was conceptualism, in which the building acknowledged its neighbors.
Our last bite in Chicago was literally a Chicago dog from Downtown Dogs. My boyfriend got the classic downtown dog. Their typical Chicago docs included fresh vegetables: slice of tomato, long pickle, chopped onions… plenty of mustard.. NO KETCHUP!!!
I got the Cheddar Bratwurst! The hot dogs were very good in its most simplest way. It is definitely a different style from a Cali dog for sure!
