This is our last day in Zhangjiajie, which means last day to eat noodles and soup! We’re starting the day a little later today in hopes that the sky clear up more by then.
So my mom and I had time to explore the nearby streets a little. We decided to eat at this one stand my mom noticed last night, which is now open!
She has her cooking station set up on the outside with bags of raw noodles of different styles, a spices station and her pot of broth. She also has other little foods here and there.
Eating is on the inside!! They never serve water here and there’s almost a small trash can near all the tables.
We got an order of steamed buns with meat inside. They’re so cute! The filling is small (as I’ve noticed in China) but it’s really tasty!!
Here is the sauce station for the noodle soup and omg. I swore I took a picture of the noodle soup we got but for some reason it’s not in my phone! That’s odd… but it basically looks like a clear chicken broth of wonton soup. You add the spices in to add flavor although I already think it’s flavorful by itself.
But it basically looks like the wonton soup from when we had it yesterday morning with very little meat in it. Some of them don’t even have fillings.
Then we saw another restaurant that was frying potstickers in the front and my mom wanted some so we stopped by b
They literally just cleared the station before I took the picture so it looks lonely!!
Noodle making station on the right!
They were oily but really good. It was just plain leek fried dumplings. But we’re juicy and good and oily! Haha!
Hot soy milk!! Very sweet and made my tummy warm.
okay now I remembered to take a picture of this noodle soup! This broth looks a lot deeper in brown than the first one. The noodles are hand-pulled and soft. They were like infinity noodles. Some wood ear mushrooms and beef!
For the last day our tour guide took u to his favorite mountain, Tianmen Mountain. Unfortunately, even though we started the day later and the sun came out, the fog was too thick in the mountains to see far. I am a bit disappointed for missing out on the view, but what views we did get were special.
The walkway around Tianmen Mountain at the top. Unfortunately, we could not see the hole.
My mom wanted to leave behind a wish.
And next thing we know, we’re back at the Zhangjiajie Airport. I was starving. There were only two restaurants here: this one and another called “Italian Restaurant.” LOL. Are you kidding me? They had burgers and stuff so obviously my mom and I opted for the Chinese one.
We both ordered the braised beef noodle soup that came with braised beef, bowl Chou, veggies like peas, egg and a side of pickled seaweed. My mom added vinegar to hers. I added chili oil to mine. This was actually really good. It was 52 yen per bowl, which was 5x the price of a regular bowl in the city BUT still cheap compared to American standards. The noodles were soft and chewy. The broth was lightly savory and comforting. The braised beef pieces were small! And only two bok choy pieces! My mom figured vegetables are rare and more expensive here.
The last thing we technically ate for this “day” was our airplane food on the way to Beijing. Our flight was delayed by over an hour and since it was a night time flight, they served us a super light meal instead. Consisted of a simple ham and mayo sandwich, grape tomatoes, bread and yogurt juice to drink. My mom and I knew it was yogurt but we thought we were supposed to eat it so we kept trying to open it. I made a comment to one of the flight attendants that it was hard to open and she shook her head no and found my short straw in my tray. I then understood! Just pierce it with the straw and drink it! It was yummy.
