Wahh! It’s our last morning in Beijing and our last chance to get breakfast here. My mom and I started out with trying to find this dumpling noodle place I found on apple maps but we couldn’t find it. Even though it shows we were there, I didn’t see any shops open. So we went back to our usual spot. My mom and I stopped by MYDO Pie next door to buy two pies for us.
My mom got mushroom pork and I got spicy chicken. It was freshly hot. I really like their pies and how they make the flaky crust on the outside. I was watching them hand knead the dough the other day.
In Western Mahua, my mom and I got two bowls of noodle soup (12 yen each), a bowl of hot soybean milk (3 yen) and a fried bread thingy (3 yen). I know how to say it in Vietnamese but don’t even know what to call it in English. It’s kind of like a fry bread but with more airy consistency.
When we ordered, the cashier lady saw us again for the fifth time and made a face and did an irritated sigh. Seriously? How rude! Us ordering here isn’t even that much more trouble. We just point to the pictures and show how many fingers of it we want.
My mom added 3 spoonfuls of sugar into the soybean milk and it was the perfect sweetness. I wish we discovered the sugar sooner! I LOVE SOY MILK, especially fresh hot soy milk!
The fried bread was crispy, airy and hot. Fresh batter.
My spicy chicken pie wasn’t even spicy. Had a small kick but man, this thing is soo filling!
We then stopped by our boba place but they’re not open yet! Ugh it was 8:58am local time. I’m gonna try to convince my mom to check again in an hour. It’s literally across the street!
After coming back to the room, I used my previous pictures to figure out which boba place this was. I found their website and it says it opens at 9am. That means we were there just two minutes early! I told my mom and we went back out, 15 minutes to 10am. The guy says they open at 10. So my mom and I wandered up and down the streets one last time until 10am.
And I finally got my last piece of boba in Beijing. This time I ordered a large size, same as last night: green milk tea with mini boba, hot. But the guy mixed the boba and put both sizes! Ugh! That’s okay.. because I am going to go home soon.. yay ๐
I saved 3 dan tats for the airport.. even when cold and not fresh, they are still DELICIOUS. Oh dan tats, I’m going to miss you. No line, so cheap. Only in SF Chinatown are you just as good if not better (but with a 3hr wait).
To go home, we had to fly to Shenzhen first. On our short 3hr flight, they fed us!
My mom got chicken and rice.
I got beef and noodles. The food was meh. But the yogurt drink was yummy! I think that’s one of the few things I will take from here is the sour milk yogurt drink. I’ve already eaten the Vietnamese thicker version but this is the drink version! I need to go back home and look for these in an Asian supermarket. They’re so addicting! A light creamy texture and a slightly sour taste that’s also milky at the same time.
Then from our flight from Shenzhen to LA, my mom and I rushed through customs and security in 15mins to make it to our last home stretch. For the first meal, we chose minced pork and rice, which was actually fairly good. There was plenty of gooey savory sauce. The star carrot is cute.
then for “breakfast,” we chose omelette because the porridge looked bland and plain. The omelette was really scrambled eggs laced with thin white onions. Some steamed veggies and a hot dog to accompany. The croissant was just okay. And another yogurt drink yay!
AND WE HOME. Feels good to be back in America. I appreciate where I was born and grew up after visiting a third world country. Mommy, thank you again for coming to America to give me an American life. ๐
