Wow, I think tonight was one of my more favorite yelp elite events for a number of reasons!! It was at one of my favorite places to go eat back then with my mom during lunch time.. I had very good company! It was a table of us four who were complete strangers but became amicable with each other at the end.. The food was good and plentiful.. The goodies from the restaurant and #yelpelite were amazing..
Can I keep going? You sure bet! It was at Boiling Point in San Gabriel. The event was organized in the upstairs half of the restaurant. They were featuring their soon-to-be two new soup items: mushroom veggie and tonkotsu miso.
Each of us were greeted by a pleasant surprise at our seat. We got a yelp swag that included a selfie light for your cell phone, some yelp chopsticks, stickers and best yet..
..a lamination of our Yelp profile!!!! Thank you Margaret for making these for us! You are so sweet and thoughtful and creative! This was my favorite gift!!!!
We got three appetizers to start:
Garlic pork belly. This was very thin, well boiled and soft. The garlic made it savory and gave it flavor.
Spicy cumin lamb. This was my favorite appetizer! The lamb was juicy and flavorful, especially with the spicy kick from the cumin. The sauce was savory. The cheese is always a bonus for me!
Spicy fermented tofu. This was just okay! Not what I intended my fermented tofu to be. I think I prefer the soft tofu versus the fried tofu.
Iced milk with egg pudding and boba. We each got to pick any drink on the menu. I chose one that didn’t have caffeine! The boba was kind of hard and not chewy; I didn’t like it. The egg pudding was good and soft. The iced milk was just okay.
Spinach wok noodle. You can’t really tell from the picture but the noodles were green. It didn’t taste like spinach but did have the consistency of fiber.
Tonkotsu miso hot soup. Juicy chasu pork simmered in miso broth topped with egg, cabbage, bamboo shoot, shrimp, soft tofu, organic bunashimeji mushroom, fried tofu skin, udon, wood ear mushroom, corn, pickled ginger, seaweed, green onion and miso sauce. Wow.. this was a lot of food. I only ate half and had to take home the rest. This was like a Japanese ramen done hot pot style. The concept felt a little weird to me. The protein choices were interesting too: fish, shrimp and pork belly?
I think the pork belly was over cooked because it was already sitting in my boiling pot of hot soup. I didn’t even touch the shrimp because I didn’t want to dirty my fingers trying to peel the skin.
But the vegetables were yummy! Especially in the hot bean sauce!
Oh… I looked from the side and it looked more on the watery side. There is a separate small container that has the milk. I was too full to eat it for dessert because I already had my boba, but I will definitely dive into it tomorrow! ๐
Thank you BP for the goodie gift bags! ๐
Loves to the free BP t-shirt, BP recyclable pen (made of cardboard – so environmentally friendly and hella cool), Mother’s Day card (thanks for helping me please my mother), a $10 BP gift card (I’ll be coming back for sure), and a BP lunch bag that is cold-proof inside (the inside layer is the silver stuff).
Oh! And inside of the little cute box tied in a cute little red ribbon is a BP cookie!
By the end of the night, our table added each other on Yelp as friends. We had good conversations and got to know each other a bit more over good food and attentive service.
Thank you to Margaret again for a fabulous event! You throw the best events!!! Like, you seriously do. ๐
