Happy Birthday again to my boyfriend! 🙂 I visited him for the day yesterday and took him to brunch at a recently new place called Morning Glory in Little Italy, San Diego. Now let me tell you this: this place is all GLAM. Everything about it, from the serve ware to the cocktails to the bathroom, is all glammed out in the most bougie yet attractive way possible!
We got there at about 10am in Tuesday morning and it was packed! We waited about 30 minutes until a table came up for us. During our wait, we got cocktails at the bar.
I need to show you guys how crazy this menu looks! This is how it’ll open up. And if you read carefully, after every single menu item, there are funny phrases that follow each item description. This menu looks badass. Everything about this whole place looks so glam and cool.
I got the Thai Iced Tea – light blended rum, Ceylon tea cordial, coconut milk, corn milk, boba. “Insert obligatory Nama-stay pun here. Then recall that Thai and Sanskrit have zero connection. Feel stupid. Repent. Duck down more boba.” I really only got this out of curiosity to try it, but I was disappointed. Ugh I knew I shouldn’t have gotten it! Regular boba tastes way better. This boba was hard and not chewy. The drink was interesting though. It was very lightly milky, but the coconut taste was definitely there.
My boyfriend got the Cafe de Olla – Reposado tequila, maple butter, vanilla, orange peel, cinnamon, coffee. This is a coffee liqueur served hot and from a French press. This was surprisingly sweet. I love the smell of vanilla.
The inside of the restaurant looks like this! Oh, this place is on the second floor only so you have to walk up the stairs to get to the front entrance. Or take the elevator which opens up to directly inside.
Here is our glam booth that we sat in. Every table had a tier stand in the middle to give more table space. The pink just works! Everything about this whole place is so pink and glam, but it just works. Amazing! I was digging it.
The fork and knife handles were also pink and made with a material that was soft and similar to the couch.
Isn’t the decanter made for alcohol? Not here! They use it for the water! So boogie.
My boyfriend got the Chicken-fried Dry-aged steak and eggs with sausage gravy. “Couldn’t be more down-home if it showed up at your table clutching a CMA award and wearing rhinestones.” This phrase was funny so I had to quote it!!! For 20+ dollars, this was too expensive, but otherwise very tasty. The eggs were cooked however you want it, so perfectly fried and very yolky. It came with the fried scallop potato thing. THIS THING WAS GOOD. The sausage gravy had sausage bits in it and very savory and decadent. It was so flavorful and juicy. I loved the chunky gravy. Finally, the steak – cooked perfectly medium rare and juicy.
Khachapuri – mozzarellas, feta, garlic, olive oil, egg, butter. I love breakfast pizzas and when I saw it on the menu, I really wanted to try it. It was good. The bread tasted like sour dough. The yolk was runny and the cheeses just melted together.
Crispy scallop potato – decadent slice of creamy gratin, breaded and fried to a crisp. This was GOOD. Same thing that came with the fried steak. For just $6, this is a must get for every table.
Slices of potato and very cheesy. It was HOT. The outside was perfectly crispy; he inside was soft. Be careful when you eat this! The burn on your mouth is worth it though.
Love the plate!
My boyfriend’s second drink was the Goldstein’s Orange Julius – light-bodied rum, dry Riesling, coconut milk, orange, passion fruit, vanilla, aquafaba. This drink tasted like an orange creamsicle. I barely taste the alcohol. It was good! I love this drink!
Finally, lastly, for dessert: SoufflĂ© pancakes – butter, maple syrup, whipped cream. These were done Japanese style. It’s very thick, but very eggy and soft and airy inside. Anddd they wiggle!
You have to bypass the kitchen to get to the restroom. I love being able to look into a kitchen. I am always so curious and it is so cool to see behind the scenes.
Cool ceiling!
Cool door handle!
GLAM restroom!!!! There’s only two restrooms, but I think the owner might have wanted to focus on individual glam restrooms.
I approve of the quality of the take out box. However, I am disappointed they ran out of take out bags that I saw were also pink.
Oh, let me include a last minute picture of my selfie in front of the star on the ceiling.
My boyfriend loved the hot sauce they made with the scallops potato so I bought it for him. It was only $10 and labeled Morning Glory.
Overall, I love this place! I love the look, the food, the decor, the ambiance and cocktails! I would definitely come back but only on a weekday to avoid a super long wait.
Next time, maybe for some afternoon tea that is 12-3 daily for just $15 per person. Comes with tea sandwiches too! Totally worth.
