Going to Munich, all of us were excited to go to Oktoberfest the next day. Even me!!! Even me who doesn’t drink beer. It’s okay though because I never have to drink to have a good time.
We checked into our Leonardo hotel (there were like five different ones so making sure we had the right address was crucial). Look! They gave each of us a piece of chocolate in the shape of a heart.
And a gingerbread heart cookie in honor of the Oktoberfest festivities!
the next morning, we took the subway to Oktoberfest, which was only like 6 or so stops. We actually were staying pretty close to the subway station too! How convenient! Each ticket only cost us 2.90 euros.
The first thing I got at Oktoberfest was a long breakfast sausage cooked in red chili oil. It was put into a piece of bread and topped with some ketchup and mustard. Yummmmn!
Then we got a huge pretzel! Omg! It was so big!!
We managed to get a table at one of the beer halls. We went to Paulaner hall table!
These beers were huge!!!!!
Each cup is 1L big! I took a small sip and it was actually really light! Not much of the beer aftertaste and not as carbonated.
My mom even tried some too! We didn’t finish it all.. I also tried the beer with lemonade and apple – I like the one mixed with apple more. It tasted like apple cider.
My fiancé is having the time of his life right now!!!
We got a platter of cold meats and sausages and cheeses, which was a mistake because it didn’t taste that very good.
This plate of pork shank was gooooood though! Look at that bone and skin and everything!
These mugs of coffee or hot chocolate, we get to keep as souvenirs! How nice!!
Some white breakfast sausages with a seasoned mustard.
My mom and I went outside for a little bit and passed by this place..
..that served so many pork shanks being rolled and cooked!! Look at all that!!
So my mom and I decided to get a pork shank sandwich to share. The meat was very good and tender and juicy. The bread was light and fluffy!
Look at my mom being cute!
More pictures from Oktoberfest to come but for now, this is it because they’re on other people’s phones.
The beer hall was very big and crazy! Actually, I liked the idea that each beer hall had different names and themes and decorations. It would have made beer hall hopping really fun!!! But due to the high chance of rain and that getting a table without reservations is very hard, we were stuck at one table until 1530!
This is Cynthia, one of Vince’s cousins. We convinced her to stand up on the bench and chug the rest of her beer like what we’ve been seeing the rest of the guys doing because each time someone does, everyone cheers and roars!!!
Well, she made a show alright and became everyone’s celebrity. However, you’re not supposed to stand on the bench and drink so security came to tell her to take a few laps before coming back. Everyone boo’ed. When she came back, everyone wanted pics from her!

After Oktoberfest, I convinced half of the group to walk to Starbucks with me to get some mugs for my collection. It was only 0.6 miles so the walk wasn’t too bad!
Then we dropped by this gastropub to eat an early dinner and feed the parents.
I got hot chocolate!
Vince’s dad really wanted to order the roasted pork even though we told him not to. It was good, but not as good as the pork knuckle we picked!
Crispy pork knuckle haxe with painted cabbage and buttered potato dumplings. I don’t understand the potato dumplings. It’s not that good to me, but the pork knuckle was very juicy and crispy, especially the skin!!!
Fresh wild mushrooms in a creamy herb sauce with homemade pretzel dumplings. I don’t understand the pretzel dumplings either, but the rest of the plate was very good. This would actually be good as a pasta sauce! It was very creamy and rich and flavorful. I really enjoyed the mushrooms and all of the rich seasoning from the herbs.
Liver dumpling soup in beef broth with chives. Everyone wanted to try this so we got four bowls of soup. The broth was very rich and flavorful. It was warm and comforting to my tummy. The liver dumpling was like a powdery meatball.
Overall, today was a good day. Oktoberfest was definitely a once in a lifetime experience for me since I don’t drink beer nor like it. Only did it for my new fiancé. 🙂
We also managed to escape the rain forecast today. I pray tomorrow will
Be the same!
