I cannot believe that I’ve lived in 626 my whole life and am a boba/tea lover and didn’t discover Neighbor’s Tea House until Covid! This small boba shop is owned by Hailey Chau, a young & friendly girl who is create a handful of creative and yummy drinks and AMAZINGLY smooth soybean tofu.
It is located roughly across the street of In-N-Out on Rosemead by a high school, where I hear it gets most of its business from students. During Shelter in Place, she started to open again every Saturday but for mobile orders ahead of time (or via social media i.e. Facebook or Instagram). Just very recently, she is now open Friday, Saturday & Sunday!
This is her most popular signature drink, which consists of smashed avocado, durian, rainbow jelly & coconut shaved ice. It is at least $6 per drink, but is EXTREMELY worth every penny to drink. (Plus, most boba shops are increasing their prices and are roughly $5 per drink. For one more dollar, why not get the good stuff like avocado and durian?! The two ingredients together sound weird, but they work! You get the creamy texture from the smashed avocado, the mild sweetness from the durian, the refreshing taste from the coconut and the fun chewies from the rainbow jelly!
Now her soybean tofu is literally to die for! All my life eating the hot version of soybean tofu with sugar syrup.. I have never come across something that is as smooth and light as Hailey’s! Even my parents were surprised and complimented that they haven’t had anything like this THIS good in America! Unlike the others, these are meant to be eaten cold. As smooth and silky and soft.. so much you can literally drink it too!
I decided to try one of their regular tea drinks and opted for the unique Thai green tea. It tastes like thai tea, but not as milk and slightly less strong.
I also settled my curiosity and ordered her Soyfu drink, which consists of coconut milk, red bean, soybean tofu pudding, chia seeds & grass jelly. This is a very unusual refreshing drink that reminds me of Vietnamese dessert drinks.
Thank you Hailey Chau for randomly choosing me as one of the winners for the 1 gallon freshly squeezed sugar cane juice for the season! She let me pick if I wanted regular or with kumquat and I decided to try the Kumquat sugar cane juice. It is very, very light in kumquat and has a lingering kumquat taste too! I really liked this!
And who can resist but buy even more smashed avocado and durian drinks? One of the Saturdays, I decided to buy 8 of them to feed all of the parents (I knew they would fall in love with this drink).
My addiction for this place is only growing!! I will definitely come back again and again to support Neighbor’s Tea House! I want this business to last!
