KinKan is a tiny “pop up” concept in LA that I believe is created and run by Nan Yimcharoen? Correct me if I am wrong guys.. There is barely any information on the IG profile and in fact this profile is also private! This “pop-up” concept specializes in fresh sushi, wagyu and seafood (chirashi & bento boxes). They are delicately wrapped & put together in beautiful study bento boxes & wrapped in delicate coverings with fresh flowers. Food is exquisitely fresh & beautifully presented.
Must DM to pre-order and exclusively only available Wednesday-Sunday from 4-8pm. Must pay via Venmo or Paypal to confirm order and pick-up is only in Silverlake. Address is only give out after you pay and has changed locations at least once already (hearsay from someone). To eat this feels almost an honor to given the chance, but it is not too hard to pre-order either. There were will new dates for the following month announced and they get booked out fairly quickly so gotta be fast!
Ohhh! The excitement we both had when my sister was untying the knot and opening the wrapping… It felt like a picnic!
OHHHH how silly we were when we saw two beautiful bento boxes… It made us even more excited to see what the food looks like in real person..
And we present….
Wagyu A5 Chirashi Don – Japanese Miyazaki Wagyu A5 cooked on yaki yaki san (smokeless grill), soy marinated jidori egg yolk, takuwan pickle and sushi rice.
These pictures depict exactly how they look! Even though they had to wait another 30 min car ride for my sister to transport them from Silverlake to my house, the food looked as fresh as if they were served to us if we were standing outside on the sidewalks.
The wagyu was Miyazaki A5 wagyu and lightly seared on the edges. It was lightly salted and tasted very tender. It was also very light to eat and did not feel heavy at all! The rice was short-grain white rice and topped with toasted sesame seeds. Each bowl also came with 3 lightly pickled yellow carrots?
Oh and each chirashi bowl came with a salted egg yolk that was perfectly gooey and ooey over the wagyu and the rice..
I added uni to my chirashi and my sister added snow crab and ikura eggs.
The additional uni came in 3 generous pieces and were big! They smelled so fresh just like the sea and had the perfect texture.
Snow crab legs were neatly trimmed and cut for the ease of pulling out of their shell claws. The ikura eggs can never go wrong! This bowl also came with pretty flowered-cut carrots.
My sister and I were so impressed with this wagyu chirashi don that ..
1) We finished the whole thing ourselves!!
2) We are completely obsessed with KinKan and started to browse the other pictures on Instagram to see what else we would want to try next timeE!
3) We already made a deal that we would try their shellfish & sashimi bowls next month for our next sister date.. 🙂
