Alright, this is our last full day in Spain. We had breakfast again in our hotel on the first floor. This time we discovered something.. they have bread and a toaster and pre-puréed fresh tomato for spread!!
We chose nutty breads to be toasted, for some fresh tomato puree and cured ham. This is the perfect, simple breakfast in Spain! Bread and tomato and ham! We made our own spread. We might even like this more than anchovies!
Now for some more walking around and exploring and buying last minute souvenirs for our families.
After we walked around, we went back to the Mercado de San Miguel for a light lunch. We got fresh octopus dressed in a light olive oil and Tiago dressing. On the right is shrimp and mussels in a pepper olive oil salad. Both were very good and very refreshing. We liked the olive oil dressing on the left more!
Then we got the Mexican beef and jalapeño and the Spicy chorizo, corn and cheese empanadas. Both empanadas are so hot and yummy! The Mexican beef was mildly spicy. The chorizo and cheese empanada was very cheesy and flavorful! We love the crispy covers!
Afterwards, as we walk towards our hotel to chill, we got some churros and hot chocolate take away to eat by our hotel window balcony and people watch. Our hotel is so nice and has such a good view. It is also super central and why not when we also need to pee! Haha!
Our last meal in Spain and I let Vince picked. I should have known he would pick a meat heavy place because he’s been craving red meat after the first few days of seafood. He made reservations at La Parrilla de la Reina. It had funny decor such as fake grass on the walls and ceiling and red pigs stuck to it.
And here is to my last sangria in Spain! It was actually really good! Way more dense, fruity and sweet with a strong touch of cinnamon. I appreciated the cinnamon. There was also apple slices in it which I ate.
Meat empanada from La Pampa. This was so delicious. Wait until you can see the cross section of this! But the meat was so flavorful, savory, juicy and abundant.
Extra meat oxtail croquettes. These were also really really good. It was like a thick and creamy stew of oxtail meats.
Grass fed Angus beef tenderloin. Okay, they messed up on our order but that’s okay. Vince was very pleased because this was what he was craving all along. It was perfectly medium rare and came with French fries and chimichurri sauce.
Their chimichurri sauce was less olive oily than what were used to.
Okay okay their French fries were good. But man as my last meal and this feels American!
Squid and prawns skewer with garlic, lemon and parsley. This was disappointing. I don’t taste garlic, lemon or parsley in this dish at all. That dark sauce is sweet and almost tasted like a watered down hoisin sauce. And this isn’t even on a skewer stick!
But overall, the sangria, croquette and empanada were very memorable!
