This is our last full day in Honolulu! Today, we have a more relaxing schedule of just walking around the beaches and shopping centers and souvenir shopping. The weather is a lot nicer today, less warm and windy.
We started our morning at Island Vintage Coffee for some yummy Hawaiian coffee and açaí bowls. There was about a 30 min wait but it was worth it! My sister and mom got the açaí bowls and I got myself a taro bagel!
Vintage Kona Mocha. Macadamia and coconut with pea berry chip. This is one of their frozen coffees. Very good and very strong! There is a subtle sweetness from the coconut and the macadamia. It does taste a bit more nutty. The pea berry chips add a nice textural chew to the drink. I really enjoyed this.
Haupia Moana Bowl. Frozen haupia cream, shaved coconut, berries, local banana, papaya, Big Island organic honey, organic granola. My mom and sis really enjoyed their açaí bowls. My mom let me try some of her haupia cream and it was delicious and coconut-y.
Taro bagel with ube cream cheese and vegan haupia cream. I love bagel and cream cheese and I will try a new one any chance I can get! The bagel had a taro flavor and smell. I’m not gonna lie that the cream cheeses overpower the taro bagel, but they are so good! The ube cream cheese is sweet and creamy and tastes like ube! The haupia cream was a smooth coconut cream. Mildly sweet and creamy. Tasted good too! And of course I added regular cream cheese because that is still my favorite!
After a few hours of walking the beach and buying souvenirs, we walked back to Marugame Udon for an early dinner to avoid the rush and not wait in line. What a good decision! There was NO at 1630 and after we were seated, there was a line! OMG!
Nikutama served with sweet flavored beef, hot spring egg and kake sauce. All three of us got this with different types of tempura. I got mushroom, Japanese omelette, and shrimp tempura. All were very good! The tempura was so fresh and crispy. The mushroom was flavorful. The omelette was mildly sweet. The shrimp was juicy. The udon hit the spot!!!
My mom also got us some Japanese cup noodles for a night snack if we get hungry again… I kind of doubt it and am done eating for the day. Tomorrow morning we will make one last stop to our favorite musubi spot before heading to the airport!
