Yay we’re finally starting our vacation!! This evening we are going to fly to Greece from LAX. We are flying SWISS airlines and will have a layover in Switzerland.
Airplane dinner consisted of vegetables on cous cous as the main course. There was a chicken option but they ran out by the time they got to our row (row 50 out of 52). The vegetables were surprisingly good and consisted of artichoke, tomato, olives, and mushrooms. It was topped with a generous amount of feta cheese. There was also a side of corn and quinoa salad, bread and butter and a whipped cream on salted cracker dessert.
Like our experience on JAL, they had a generous display of snacks and drinks in the middle of the plane to self indulge in. I couldn’t sleep and did some walking up and down the plane while Vince was sleeping. I took one of each snack for emergency later! There was an assortment of sealed pastries and nuts and chocolates. (We ended up eating half of it at our hotel when we got there at 1am the following night).
Breakfast consisted of vanilla green yogurt, croissant and Tillamook Monterey Jack cheese. I’ve never had vanilla Greek yogurt before and it was good!
There were no direct flights available for this time when I was searching for flights so we just landed at our first layover in Zurich, Switzerland.
We checked out two lounges during our 3hr layover:
Primeclass Lounge in Gate E, where we did a quick stop to get coffee and try to poop. It was rated 5stars on Yelp but very empty and not many food options.
However, the rosemary beef and carrot soup were delicious. I didn’t take pictures of it because we were in a hurry and I thought it looked ugly. Their cappucino is very weak. I could barely poo! We stayed only 15 mins because we found out we had to go through passport bookkeeping to our next Gate for our layover. Luckily, no line at all. Everyone else must have already gone through while we were at the lounge.
Gate A had a lot more shops and restaurants and two lounges.
We visited the Aspire Lounge. The food here is a lot better!!
Porcini mushroom rigatoni was light yet savory. The pasta was cooked to softness which I like. What was impressive was the Indian coconut curry with lentils and beans. There was white rice but I wanted just the curry. It was so good actually!! Pasta salad was meh. Latte macchiato was stronger!
From Switzerland, we fly to Athens and then to Santorini right after as our first city to start vacation! Visiting the Goldenair Handling CIP Lounge with 15 mins to spare for boarding time to hoard up on some free water bottles and more snacks (nuts, quinoa salad and carrot breadsticks).
We checked into our first hotel, Amber Light Villas. It was so dark and we can barely make out the hilly silhouettes. Our hotel looks so white and clean, from ceiling to floor. Our hotel room was also the most spacious I’ve never had! We even have a private jacuzzi in our private balcony. We chowed down on some airplane and lounge snacks before trying to get some sleep. And showered too.. Night night.
