Morning morning super early.. We’ve been awake since 330am, jetlagged. Our hotel gives complimentary breakfast every day from 8-1030am.
Our hotel, Amber Light Luxury Villa, serves a pretty generic greek version of an American continental breakfast. There was the Greek version of sausage, bacon and egg (sunny side up and their yolks are so bright orange). There is greek yogurt, honey, fruit! There was also some savory baked pastries (ham&cheese and cheese). Both were delicious!!
Afterwards, we took the taxi to the Agios Theodore Church in Imerovigli. We hiked the Skaros Venetian Fortress. Then we started to walk the cities of Fira and then Firosteni to explore some city life. We were a bit disappointed but maybe because we started our day early and no one was awake yet. It was already like 10am at this point.
We kept walking and walking and accidentally stumbled upon The Vine. Our hotel hostess had suggested this spot for dinner to watch the sunset, but if we’re already here for lunch, we can try it now! We can see the sunset from anywhere!!
We started with some drinks at The Vine.
Sommelier’s martini. White wine, vermouth, citrus aromas. This was a cocktail over soon of a white wine that was refreshing.
Gavalas, Santorini 2021. Assyrtiko. Vince also liked his white wine to accompany his seafood.
Stuffed vine leaves, rice, dill. This was very good and reminded me of a Vietnamese dish..
Fried squid, rocket mayonnaise. I can’t believe I did it again and did not realize that fried squid is no different from just basic calamari.. I was disappointed in myself!!
Grilled octopus, steamed vegetables. The grilled octopus was only one tentacle and the vegetables were so disappointing.. they were like frozen vegetables just steamed up. This isn’t a $$-$$$ dish to me!!
We didn’t finish our food 🙁 Vince thinks it’s cause we’re still jetlagged.. I think we are.. we’re so tired and don’t have much of an appetite to eat.. I think it is because at this point it is in the middle of the night, LA-time still and we have not adjusted our stomachs. But we also think maybe we are not the island & resort type of vacation people..
Oh, also, the view was nice but I quickly felt like I was suffering because it started to get really, really cold. Too much cool breeze! I need more sun and heat!
We kept walking and walking and eventually, we noticed more people and more shops open in the main shopping areas. We felt alive again! We window shopped for a while, found a bottle of Santorini red wine to try at our hotel and took a taxi back. We decided to make use of our hotels amenities (jacuzzi on our private terrace).
Then, because our hotel is so nice and far away from the city, we opt to eat at our hotel restaurant because we’re super sleepy & tired. It’s also been drizzling on and off today.
Degustation of Greek spreads. Kalamata & green olives pate, tomato paste, mini barley buns and a mini Greek pita baked. The spreads were actually really good! The tomato paste was extra pungent. Vince loved the olive tamponade!
Kopanisti. Spicy feta cheese spread. This was soo good! I really like the feta cheese. It reminds me of the roasted red pepper hummus but of feta cheese. The warm pita bread was comforting.
You can also see Vince’s Negroni in the picture too! He decided that maybe all the wine is making him sleepy.
We’re sitting outside, facing the ocean waves and cold weather, and eating our pita breads and spreads. They were actually really good!! We ordered more pita bread to finish the spreads with.
We’re trying really hard to stay awake but jet lag is taking over..
