I couldn’t sleep much again last night!! I went to bed at 1030pm and woke up at 1230am needing to pee and probably didn’t fall back asleep until maybe 4am? So I think in total I got about 5hr of sleep.. Okay.. that’s enough to be functional for today..
We got ready and packed quick to grab some breakfast at the hotel before checkout. They served scrambled eggs this time and the ham & cheese pies made a comeback! Those were my favorite out of all the pies and give me memories of the Hot Pockets pepperoni pizza. The sun is rising finally! Just in time for our morning departure. It was a nice, cold, windy, rainy time in Santorini.. Downed a quick cup of cappuccino and took the hotel taxi to the ferry dock of Thira. The super jet website told us to arrive an hour before departure but the jet is coming 15 mins late!
Oh my god our ferry was an hour behind schedule and I got super motion sickness.. I almost made it.. but as the ferry docked at the shore it rocked way too much and I threw up in our ziplock bag of nuts.. sigh.. not feeling too good.. but did feel better after I threw up!! I’m dreading the ferry ride from Mykonos to Athens.. I need to buy Dramamine!!
But you know what? Our hotel in Mykonos is so nice and so new.. and the people are so nice, that it made me feel better instantly. We were greeted by the hostess, who offered us welcoming fruit juice drinks that contained some ginger. That surely helped!! She gave us a short tour and then showed us to our room. It is much smaller than the one In Santorini, but much nicer, cleaner and fresher. We have a private balcony with a more beautiful view!! She also gave us a waterproof welcome bag to use for our personal use. Soo cuuute!!
They also have a spa where the hotel is giving us a complimentary 50min pool treatment in which each pool 10min was a different treatment like lavender. We made an appointment for tomorrow evening at 1730.
After settling into our hotel room, we walked towards the nearest pharmacy and Starbucks for me to buy Dramamine for our next ferry ride and also my Mykonos mug!!!
Then we walked 10 min into town where a lot of the restaurants and shopping stores are. We walked around and around and purposely got lost in the cute hallways.
I accidentally found Jimmy’s Gyros!! My little sister highly recommended this spot as super cheap and super good. She said she ate there 3 times!! Imma go back tmr for sure 🙂
Pork gyro sandwich with tomato, french fries tzatziki onions for only 5 euro! YIPPIEEE! I ate and walked around happily, holding my savory cone of deliciousness while Vince trots ahead looking into watch window shops. The tomato was very fresh and naturally sweet. The pork meat was very fatty, juicy and tender. The grilled onions were so soft and hardly noticeable (good for me because I am not a big fan of onions). The tzatziki was very creamy and delicious. I definitely want more tomorrow!
After some more window shopping and accidentally stumbling upon some churches and checking out the windmills and waves, we ate at Katerina’s for a light dinner. I was still feeling partially full from my gyro and nauseous or off from the sea sickness.
Restaurant Katerina is pretty cute. We sat at a table right inside of the windows and doors overlooking the violent waves.
We got two cocktails to start and they were large cocktails!
Green temptation. Masthiha, gin, cucumber, apple, lime. Very sweet, light and refreshing. I love the presentation and eating the freshly sliced green apples.
Vince got the Katerina cocktail and he says it was very sweet without being coyingly sweet. It was an appropriately tiki-sweet.
Steamed mussels. Mussels, tomato, garlic, lemon. This was delicious! The mussel shell were delicious. The broth that it was cooked in was so light and mild. It was perfect! It didn’t outshine the mussels. We got extra pita bread to dip into the broth and it soaked up so nicely. It was perfect!
Moussaka. Minced beef, potatoes, aubergines, zucchini & bechamel. I really wanted to try this because not only is it a local Greek dish, but it also looked like a lasagna to me. The only thing I personally am biased again is the fact that they had eggplant in it. Granted I didn’t really taste anything that was distinct in eggplant and loved everything else. The arugula salad with balsamic dressing was a nice addition.
The girls at the balcony table finally left so Vince immediately went outside to take pictures of the windmills. The view was very nice with the sound of choppy waves.
Afterwards, thanks for Vince feeling so stuffed by finishing both of our cocktails, he opted to go back to our lovely and nice hotel so that I can shower and rest in bed. I feel so drained after throwing up in the sea ferry.
