I woke up at 725am to Vince’s voice saying it’s 730! Time to get breakfast! So now lately that I’m getting good sleep, he wakes up before me and waits for me to wake up haha. Thank goodness breakfast starts at 730am here. I quickly got ready and we headed to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. They had the exact same breakfast as yesterdays.
Today I opted for some rice, mushrooms and scrambled eggs. I stirred them up so it seemed like fried rice to me. Then I had two croissants and another feta cheese tomato.
The latte was pretty but probably from the machine. Green tea leaves were the expensive kind 🙂
So breakfast was good and we left on high notes. We walked by to the reception to let them know what time we wanted to go to the port. (The hotel provides free transport to the airport and port). Our reception hosts told us all ferries were canceled yesterday and today due to the high winds. What?! We didn’t even hear from the sea ferry themselves!! Rude!!! We went through a roller coaster of stressful emotions for the next 30 mins and thank god we managed to get two seats out of Mykonos the same day that evening.
Bad news: costs extra euros unplanned for, especially last min flights. Good news: we get to check out another airport lounge and won’t have to be sea sick again.
Whew!
We waited in our hotel reception for a few hours before they took us to the airport. It’s a complimentary ride from hotel to airport. The ride was about 5-10 mins. So short!!
We arrived at the airport and it’s this little cute white building!! The airport itself is also so tiny. We had to wait a little bit outside until they let us go through security.
We were browsing the duty free section and Vince spotted a green Negroni bottle that made his eyes light up. Instantly I knew he wanted it before he asked me.
It tasted like an earthy herbal and medicinal drink. He really liked it. Plus the name of the bottle and bottle itself were cute.
Okay!! After like 7hr of waiting and traveling, we finally made it to Athens.. We were both so hungry and felt dehydrated. We checked into our hotel, Ava Hotel, and started to walk around. Our hotel was literally in the center of the city, even 2min walk from the Acropolis. Just barely a 1 min walk and we were in the crowded cobblestone streets of restaurants and shops. Granted a lot were closed but there were still a lot of people and a lot of lights.
We decided to eat at Tabepna Ta RioybetEakia. Now each capitalized letter is a Greek alphabet letter but I used the closest English looking letter.
A glass of red wine. Not a glass.. he got a whole bottle! And he knows I can’t drink a lot!!!! It was a good dry red wine though.
Fresh anchovy. Apparently Vince has never had this before and I always thought that this was an English thing because I remember my mom eating it a lot. It was lightly fried and delicious. Soft on the inside and lightly crispy skin on the outside.
Lamb stew baked in a clay pot. I got lamb because I heard lamb was good in Greece and a stew sounds very comforting and hearty right now. It was served with orzo.
Then we walked around some more.. it was fun! There are so many cute things!!! We are so excited for the next two days!! 🙂
