These last two days were a trek. It started out smoothly with our first long haul from LAX to Copenhagen, which was 11hr. The ride was pretty smooth and we had two meals.
Dinner was braised beef with tomato and fettuccini and zucchini. This was actually very good! The beef was tender, savory and flavorful. There was a lot of tomato sauce. It was served with a spring mix salad with blue cheese and ranch dressing. The salad was so tasty! I think the blue cheese did it. The dessert was an apple cheesecake and there’s bread and butter. They also gave hot tea or coffee after.
It was hard to sleep during the night, of course. We had someone who sat directly behind us who had a mild asthma attack and was constantly coughing.
Breakfast was a half hard boiled egg, deli ham, cottage cheese and tomato.
When we landed in Copenhagen, we spent the first 3 hours of it in Eventyr Lounge in Gate C, which served some decent lunch.
There was a variety of salads and for the savory: chicken curry, chili and white rice. There was also little breads and we made some tiny deli sandwiches with pastrami, provolone cheese and lettuce.
This was when it started to get rough. Our layover was 8 hours total. After the lounge, we proceeded to the middle of Terminal 3 where most of the shopping takes place.
Now I see the hype of it being a nice airport: it looks like a mall with all the shops and restaurants. There was a handful of designers, one of them being Burberry where I surprisingly found my baby blue classic cashmere scarf that is totally sold out online! No tax and 20% off thank you!
A thunderstorm is coming in and most of the flights were being cancelled. A European mentioned that the airport is going to close down and eventually all the flights will be cancelled. I clung onto hope. While other flights were cancelled, ours was one of the few given a gate number. All of us proceeded to wait there, where it kept getting delayed by every 30-60 min to eventually cancelled at 11pm ish for a flight supposed to have taken off at 850pm. It was so windy, even all the people in the plane were stuck in there for 5hr cause they couldn’t open and secure a safe tunnel way for them to leave.
We all eventually found way to the Transfer Center where we each got a ticket number to wait to be served. Ours was S1213. I’ll never forget that number. The small hallway was already packed with people waiting from the cancelled flights earlier this evening. They were in number 700s when we got there. This looked like to be a long night. We wait until 530am and they were calling 1150s. The system rebooted automatically and eventually we jungled our way to lining up to get helped. We finally get our boarding passes at around 630am for a 4pm flight that same later day and a breakfast meal voucher for 100,00dkk each, which we spent it on 3 pepperoni focaccia breads, 4 chicken skewers and a small bowl of fresh fruit.
We made new friends!!! A German boy name Yan and a Filipino couple from SoCal named Allen and Mimi. We hung out in the Transfer Center and went back out to baggage claim to find our checked luggage to re-check them to our new flights.
My mom kept saying this was so fun because we made new friends. Well, I’m glad she turned the unfortunate situation into a happy one and focused on the positive side of it: we did make new friends!
We went back to Eventyr Lounge for some light breakfast, water and a small nap. We went back to the Transfer Center to find seats to rest and nap.
We got a lunch meal voucher for 125,00dkk each, which we spent it on WOK for fried noodles with chicken and vegetables and chicken egg rolls for mommy; a elderflower bottled drink for me, which was actually very tasty.
We finally boarded at 330pm and taking off.. finally, after spending 26hr in Copenhagen airport, we are heading to Iceland.
