Today is mostly a travel day. We start the first short leg of travel back by going backwards towards Copenhagen again and spending the night there for an overnight layover. Time was already wasted when we had to wait almost 2hr for our odd-size checked baggage of my mom’s trekking poles By the time we got to our hotel in literally the dead center of the city, it was already 6pm and getting dark.
We checked into citizenM, which is a very modern and new hotel and mostly a smart hotel. Checking in can be done virtually without a host though an iPad and you can even select what kind of room and what view you want. In the end, you’ll be assigned a hotel room. Each hotel room is also powered by an iPad, where you can adjust light, mood, curtain, color settings. Super cool right? Decor is colorful and cartoon-y. My mom thinks it’s a hotel for kids!
After we settled in to our hotel, we made a short walk to Starbucks, which was literally across the street so that I can collect my Copenhagen mug. Then we walked within the block exploring some shops and looking in restaurants. We decided to eat in Tivoli Food Hall because we decided we wanted to try a variety. It was like a food court of 15 businesses.
We wanted to try Danish food and from our research, it seems like they eat open face sandwiches or toast like bread.
Roasted pork. Organic roasted pork roasted with stewed red cabbage and pickled cucumber. This was just OK. There was much more on the menu I’d rather try but it’s near the end of the day and they ran out of everything else.. it was a cold food toast.
Eggs and shrimp. Organic eggs, hard peeled shrimp, mayonnaise, crest and lemon zest. I liked this one more than the roasted pork, but I may also be biased to the toppings used to make this. I love eggs and shrimp and mayonnaise. Sold!
Okay, my mom wanted ramen… she was craving something soupy. They had duck ramen so I was like, sure I’ll give duck ramen a try..
Duck & hoisin bao. My mom wanted a bao.. How can I say no to my mom? I wasn’t feeling more danish food and wanted something more hot and soupy and hearty. Bao it is! It was.. okay… definitely had an Americanized touched to the Chinese Peking duck.
Duck ramen. Miso soup with homemade noodles, veggies and ginger – scallion. This was decent. I did like the shredded duck meat on top.. I could have lived without the extra hoisin sprayed on top; I feel like any sauce condiments should be self-helped to one’s liking. I did like the soft noodles!
Next door was a grocery shop that my mom wanted to check out for something to much in or drink for tonight and tomorrow morning before we head back to the airport.
Skyr yogurt is an Icelandic brand that I saw everywhere in Iceland and didn’t have an opportunity to try so why not now even if it is in Copenhagen? Left is for my mom to drink all on her own; right is for me tomorrow morning 🙂
I’m pretty sure I lost weight this trip. My mom and I just ate a meal a day, which is dinner. There wasn’t really any time to eat during the day because it was jam packed with outdoor activities. Snacks here or there but not real food. I can’t wait to go home!
