150am is when we take off from Saigon to go to Taipei for a layover. That’s 1150am our time. My plan was to stay awake for the first leg of the trip and layover; then sleep on the ladder half of the long leg to be awake by 7am when we land.
However, it is a lot harder than I thought. I was struggling to stay awake even 30 minutes in. My mom nudged me awake when it was time to eat. I felt so delirious.
Prawn and lotus root with papaya salad. This was our appetizer. It sounded more appealing than it looked and tasted. I just took a small bite. It tasted flavorless with a hint of spice and sour.
Fish with herb tomato sauce served with fettuccini. I would say the individual components tasted good but not together as an entree. The fish was tender and soft, which I liked. There was plenty of tomato sauce, which I liked. The zucchini and carrots were just boiled but mixed in with the sauce, can be flavored. But together as a whole, it was just very plain.
After a 3hr flight, we were back at Oriental Club Lounge in Taipei! We were back where we were so happy and excited with the delicious food. The other thing was I wasn’t hungry at first but hopefully sitting and stretching my legs for a while, my appetite will come!
I started out with a hot cup of jasmine green tea and a plate of little bites of dumpling, miso soup with seafood/beef ball and beancurd, marinated pig ear and chow mein. It was good overall. The tea bag is also from Ten Ren’s. Bougie!
Then I tried their braised pork over rice. The rice was short grain rice, moist and soft. The braised pork was decent and saucy.
The beef noodle soup is still number one here!!!
I also got some sweet coconut taro as dessert because I was craving something sweet. It was served cold and mildly sweet from the coconut flakes. The taro itself was good.
Boarding time was delayed for an hour but it was totally worth it. We got the Hello Kitty airplane again!!! YAY! The cute pillow, blanket, utensils, disposal bag, etc. So adorable!!!!
For lunch we had Seafood with herb tomato concasse served with potatoes. It was just mediocre. The broccoli, carrots, and potatoes were simply boiled. The seafood came with a very basic tomato sauce. Mixing it up did help.
There was also a chicken cole slaw salad, fruits, and a cinnamon cake that wasn’t that good. The highlight was just the warm bread bun with butter. Probably the thing that will always taste good to me no matter what! I love bread and butter. Oh but on the airplane it is probably margarine. Close enough!
Somehow I was able to fall asleep in the middle of the trip.. I think I got about 1-2hr of sleep? I went to pee and after I got back to my seat, they started to walk down with a basket of croissants. My mom and I each took one. It was dark so hence no picture but I’ll go off of taste only. It was actually a yummy croissant. It was soft. It is a Black Forest ham, cheese and ice burg lettuce in it. It wasn’t dry at all and actually tasted good!
After on and off naps throughout the flight, we had breakfast.
Savory porridge with shredded pork and mushroom. It was the same a son the way there but we didn’t mind it because it was good! (Especially with the added pork floss). The side vegetables were chopped asparagus, red bell peppers and squash. It was served cold like a cold vegetable salad.
And that’s the last meal to conclude this Vietnam trip!
