Vince normally makes a Christmas meal for us to celebrate our own little Christmas in our home, but this year we opted to eat out. We tried a sushi restaurant that originally started in Mexico City that became very successful, with a small, selective menu of carefully crafted Japanese nigiri with Mexican influence.
We decided to craft our own omakase by hand selecting nigiris that we wanted to eat:
AKAMI (nikkiri & wasabi). Very red meat tuna that is brushed with a sweet soy sauce and topped with wasabi. Delicious, tender and thick slice.
CHU’TORO (nikkiri & ginger). Yummy fatty tuna brushed with sweet soy sauce. Can’t go wrong with fatty tuna!
O’TORO (seared with binchotan charcoal, nikkiri & wasabi). This was my personal #1 that made me order two more at the end of super fatty tuna that just melts in your mouth. The charred sushi rice and toro is served warm. My guilty confession is that I did remove the wasabi from the top. I personally don’t like wasabi and the first bite with it was too much on the roof top of my mouth for me..
SALMON YUZU (lemon & yuzukosho). Very basic salmon nigiri that you can’t go wrong ordering! The mild citrus yuzu was a nice touch.
HAMACHI CHOCO (seared with hamachi & oaxacan chocolate & a pinch of salt). This is personal #2 favorite that is a super very close second to the other. This is Vince’s favorite. This was a very unique and special roll with the Mexican chocolate that gave it that subtle fusion.
UNAGI (seared eel with a touch of tare). So delicious, warm and comforting.
IKURA (marinated with in house sauce and wasabi). A basic roll that was also yummy.
We each also ordered a miso soup for some comforting warm broth to sip on.
It was also a small, cute restaurant with bar and table seating. We really enjoyed our dinner! We were in and out so fast with reservations and eating fast. 30min total. Amazing right? Haha!
