We took the train back to ICN airport in the morning about 7am. It was straightforward back and now we feel like we’re pros with the public transit in Seoul!
For a light breakfast, we used the rest of our won to get some pastries from Paris Baguette, which did originate from South Korea. We got two croquettes: galbi and spicy pork.
Galbi croquette. The meat was flavorful and slightly sweet. The crust is crunchy and crispy on the outside. I wish there were more filling though.
Spicy pork croquette. I liked this one more than the galbi. It didn’t look like much but there was more filling in this one. The pork tasted yummy with a slight spice.
We went to two lounges: Sky Hub Lounge in Terminal 1 and Terminal 1 Concourse. They had different layouts but both served the same food. The second lounge in the concourse had additional cans of soda and juices that the first didn’t have.
I chose this one particularly for the DIY bibimbap station for Vince because I know he loves bibimbap. He had two bowls of it!
I got the seaweed beef soup. It was light and refreshing. I ate two more small bowls of the sea weed soup, but this time I added mushrooms and egg from the bibimbap bar! I totally elevated my soup!
I also got a plate of munchies: Potato salad, fish cake, fusilli pasta, daikon salad, fried rice. The potato salad was yummy and light. The pasta was too sweet. Daikon salad was crunchy and yummy. The fried rice was actually good and simple!
My round two of ‘shopping’ from there: Cappuccino, which I added two packs is sugar. I also got a plate of fried rice, fish cake, potato salad, and tofu nuggets. The tofu nuggets were just okay.
We were exhausted after our travel from Seoul to Hong Kong. It was an hour train station ride back to the airport. We navigated that easily. Then we took a 4hr flight. When we landed, we got an octopus card for public transit and two AirPort Express train tickets to get to the main city. This train is so much faster!! This is like similar format in deducing like in Seoul. Get cash from the atm, buy a public transit card and go!
By the time we got to the hotel, we were tired. We did walk by alot of cheap/small yet delicious looking food, all being cooked/displayed at the window.
I told Vince we have to absolutely try roast goose while in Hong Kong. Vince found a 1 Michelin star roast goose restaurant nearby. It was only a 10min walk. When we got to Kam’s Roast Goose, it was jam packed!!! There were sooo many people waiting outside to eat.
Luckily, they offered takeout so Vince and I ordered a half roast goose and a steamed vegetable to go. It came out to be about $50 and came out in like 2 minutes. It also came with a sesame-like dipping sauce and a sweet/sour sauce. Oh and two cups of white rice because everything is a la carte.
The roast goose was delicious! It almost tastes exactly like roast duck, but maybe more gamey and firm. I think roast duck might be more tender and soft too. The skin was delicious like roast duck. The fatty parts are also really fatty too. Apparently goose is slightly bigger than duck but more expensive and considered a luxury item.
The sauce from the vegetable was delicious and light at the same time. I kept using it to pour into my rice to eat with.
During the walk there, we spotted an egg puff place. I told Vince I also wanted to get one to go as dessert too if we’re gonna be staying in. So on the way back, we stopped mammy’s pancake.
After I placed my ordered, Vince told me a crowd of people came behind me but was told by the owner I was one of the last customers because she ran out of batter. The very last customer just bought one with whatever leftover flavor batter she had. She told us this place and particularly this location is very popular among the locals and there is usually a long line on weekends. She told us we were very lucky to be able to buy one last minute. I was so grateful the timing was in our favor.
And she is so cute. This little old grandma making multiple ordered of egg puffs.
And look at this packaging!!! So cute!!! I love its design and functionally aesthetic holes.
I ordered the salted egg yolk egg puff. At home, I’ve only had the original. The batter itself was very good. After making it and it’s piping hot, she uses a blower to blow at the waffle to cool down a bit. It was very crispy and firm yet soft on the inside. There are chunks of salted egg inside each puff too.
We were so stuffed at the end. Can you believe we finished half a roast goose and a whole egg puff in one sitting? Vince and I were so bloated with food, we could barely shower before we both knocked out in bed.
