This morning, we checked out the HK cafe that we stopped by last night to get breakfast this morning. It’s called Cafe de Coral and is a huge chain in Hong Kong.
They serve various menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Vince got the pork and preserved egg porridge with soy sauce noodles combo. Everything was just mediocre and okay; very lightly seasoned. Edible and can be enjoyable but not delicious or decadent or flavorful. It was very simple, which is okay too! We didn’t expect much but wanted to try it because we were in HK and that’s what they eat. I like Delicious Food Corner more at home!
I got the corned beef scrambled eggs with oat milk and twisty macaroni and ham soup. Surprisingly, I like the eggs. The oat milk gives it a creamy and wet texture. The corned beef adds an element of pasty and saltiness. The soup was very plain to me, but Vince liked it. It tastes like they kept the pasta water when boiling the macaroni and just added ham into it. The toast tasted like a soft Asian bread.
Then we took the train to Tung Chung to ride Ngong Ping cabin ride to Ngong Ping Village. We visited the Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery.
Afterwards, we visited the inside of Central Market for a late lunch. We saw it yesterday, but we didn’t actually go in. It was like a food hall of international foods, but cooler!! It wasn’t just in one big square lot warehouse. It was diverse with creative seating and sectioning that made each food stand their own.
Vince had spotted a picture of steamed chicken in chili oil and really wanted that. We eventually found it in the corner called Double Chili. I secretly was a bit hesitant because I strictly only wanted Hong Kong food but I figured Hong Kong and China are so closely related and so many Chinese immigrated to Hong Kong. Plus, he really wanted it and I didn’t wanna say no to him.
Cold noodles with shredded chicken and peppery spicy sauce. This was the second dish we ordered. We love cold Szechuan noodles so we wanted this. The cucumber was a nice crunchy touch. The noodles were eggy and yummy. They gave us plenty of shredded chicken!!
Chicken thigh with chili oil sauce. This was what was in the poster picture and it delivered. It was so good. The chicken was served just perfectly cold yet tender and soft. The chili oil was a nice touch. It was great to have the cold chicken contrast with the comforting hot rice. This totally hit the spot.
To supplement my mildly spicy and numbing meal, I also got boba from a boba stand not too far away that’s also in Central Market. It was called Chatime.
I ordered the Taichi Supreme milk tea with boba, which is supposed to be creamier. The milk tea was delicious and milky. The boba was so soft and chewy. I was happy!
Then we went to climb at N bouldering before dinner to spruce up an appetite. It was a very small 1.5 room gym but the vibes seem very homey.
Hing Kee Claypot Rice Restaurant got so popular that they eventually took over like 4+ restaurant store fronts to open that many, operated by one kitchen. There were so many numbers on the menus. Each one was packed with people. Thankfully we quickly got seated and ordered. The vibe around Yau Ma Tei was lovely too!
Per Lucas Sin’s video of this place, it will take 30 mins for them told make our order after we order it. Each order is made to order. Mine came exactly 30 minutes later!! And I waited an extra 2 min for the days to settle before opening my lid.
Smoked duck & salted duck with rice pot. Vince got this and it was very delicious. The days just seeped into the rice and flavored the rice. It was slightly on the saltier side though. I do feel like our claypot rices lived up to the hype. I do wish I could return again to try the other topping combos because there are just too many.
Minced beef and egg with rice pot. I got exactly what Lucas got because it looked so good in his video. I wanted to add an order of foie gras but the language barrier kept me from getting what I wanted. Oh well. It was very good nonetheless. My rice came out to be super smokey and crispy. The raw egg mixed in perfectly with my rice.
After dinner, we stopped by The One Bakery for some dessert pastries and for Vince to finally try his pineapple bun.
I also got myself a cheese tart and 3 mini dan tats!!! The cheese tart was just okay.. a little disappointing and a bit too pastey for my liking, especially after eating the smooth custard from the dan tat.
Vince got a pineapple bun because he saw it and wanted to try it while in Hong Kong. To be honest, I was always curious about it too. It was a lightly sweet bun with more sweetness on top. It’s hard for me to describe it. It has nothing to do with pineapples nor taste like it.
I’ve never seen mini dan tats before! They are soooooooooo cute! I got 3 for $13 HKD. And what’s so crazy was that they were soooooo good too! The crust to custard was nice. The crust was super thin and you get a lot of custard. The custard was amazingly good. Stupid good!
I am so sad we are leaving Hong Kong already. I kind of wish we had one more day to eat. We could have had a breakfast meal but Vince wants to skip breakfast before the airport. 🙁 BOO!
