If you have never been to an “all-you-can-eat” sushi restaurant that didn’t serve high-quality premium fish and sushi, you have not been to this place. Normally, I associate with an AYCE sushi restaurant with mediocre quality and semi-fresh fish, a lot of rice, huge servings to deter you from ordering more and the occasional food poisoning that imprisons me to the toilet for a few hours. However, Huntington Beach houses a sushi restaurant that is just the opposite of the norm; in fact, the fish can be as fresh as it can be, the quality is premium and there is very little rice. This place is called AYCE Sushi HB.
The Sushi Chefs put very little rice in their rolls. They make their rolls small. All of the orders are small so that you don’t get full and can order a variety of other dishes to stomach still. The sashimi grade is A quality and fresh. They even have uni and oysters! And the Sushi is good! What more can you ask?! This doesn’t sound like an AYCE sushi restaurant but it is! And for just $35/person. 🙂
I gotta always start out my meal with some miso soup.
How adorable is this?! They have matching beer mugs and shot-size beer mugs for the soju! (Check-in on Yelp to get 99cent beers).
Their fresh oysters were dressed with salmon roe, onions and a sweet sauce.
Here is our first plate of sashimi (tuna, yellowtail, albacore). Notice the huge chunk of slices. Notice the marble red of the tuna. Notice the flakiness of the fish. This is AYCE?! I can’t believe it still!
A dynamite roll which consists of 4 pieces. How perfect is that for us party of 4?! This way we were able to sample a piece each without getting our tummies full; hence, we can order more! 🙂 I don’t sense any intentions of this restaurant trying to make much profit in any way!
Their calamari appetizer came in 4 crunchy pieces.
Their agedashi tofu was even served in 4! Just a starfish? Topped with octopus flakes.
Fresh and hot shrimp tempura served with a sweet sauce.
Who decided to order beef teriyaki at a sushi restaurant?!
These are monkey brains..
Their heart attack is a cheese-stuffed jalapeño that’s fried in tempura.
Baked mussels could have used more spicy mayo sauce in my opinion. 🙂
Again, I love their bite-size rolls for taste.
The fantastic four: shrimp tempura wrapped with assorted fish (spicy tuna, tuna, albacore, salmon, white fish).
Their scallop sushi and spicy scallop sushi melted in my mouth. Again, there was very little rice underneath!
Sashimi salad 🙂
Again, who ordered chicken teriyaki at a sushi restaurant?!
More sashimi please!! Notice I opted out from ordering salmon due to the current tapeworm scare =o
This was a surprising delight. Our waiter brought out a special serving of fresh, frozen toro belly for us. How nice of him! How good it was!!! The toro was very soft and flaky.
And I can always appreciate an AYCE restaurant that also serves AYCE ice cream at the end, especially green tea ice cream! Now this is good green tea ice cream. It was less milky and more matcha, more tea. This was probably my favorite part of the meal considering I felt so full at the end.
I hope these pictures convinced you guys enough to venture out to Huntington Beach to try high-quality sushi and fish at an AYCE rate. This is truly rare! Normally AYCE restaurants have mediocre fish at best, but not here. I advise to go with a group of friends so that you can order more! Or better yet, come when it’s someone’s birthday: they play the birthday song, bring out light-up ears for the table and free birthday dessert for the birthday person!
Tata for now! Come on an empty stomach. 🙂
