Hello peeps! And Happy belated Valentine’s Day! I’m sorry I haven’t posted a while.. but work and New York last weekend and work again consumed my time! But here I am again to share something I’ve been dying to eat.. it might not seem like a big deal to you, but it is to me! ๐
Last weekend, my boyfriend and I escaped to New York City for the weekend for this year’s Hallmark holiday! From years of watching TV shows such as Friends and How I Met Your Mother, I have been dying to try street food from the carts in New York City, New York. I know, I know.. I really wanted to try the hot dog.. and the pizza.. and falafel.. Well, I did all that!
This was my first time in New York and a Jersey friend insisted on showing us NY Times Square at night. And he certainly steered us in the right direction. It was amazing!!!! It was so bright! And so lively! It was like the Vegas Strip but even BETTER.
Walking up and down the streets of Times Square was breathtaking and beautiful.
It was 1-2am in the morning and there were so many cars, so many people and so many lights. I even got used to the constant honking. I grew accustomed to the car honks and next thing I knew, it was just regular background noise to me. It fit the lights and the streets and the ambience. It also felt so safe.
Yay! I finally get to try all of these food carts on Times Square Street! We literally hopped from one to another, each time ordering a different thing.
First up is the basic hot dog with ketchup and mustard. I know it looks bleh, but in that moment while feeling cold on the outside and warm on the inside, this hot dog tasted good and tasted NY.
I get the trend that NY pretzels have this signature smooth, golden brown color and skin. This pile of pretzels looked almost fake to me; I thought it was a display!
Pretzels with spicy mustard?! I have never heard of this food and topping combination until New York. Even pubs and restaurants have them as a drunchie food item or an appetizer. Really?! Really.. At first I didn’t like it. It was WEIRD. But the more I ate it, the more it grew on to me. And then it became good.
This is where our lamb gets shaved off.. ๐
I apologize for the plastic fork blocking most of our gyro sandwich with lamb. This was our favorite street food item! It was just so delicious. The lamb was surprisingly soft, chewy and savory. Each chew releases savory juices of the meat. And that white sauce? Gave me an orgasm in my mouth.
I think this was a beef skewer in a hot dog bun. I guess you can call it a shish kabob hot dog. Hint: pull out that skewer stick first before attempting to eat it! Haha ๐
Surprise!!! New York Times Square even had horses in the middle of the night!!!
Stay tuned for more of my New York blogs.. Coming soon your way! <3
