Happy New Year from Thailand!! I just landed in Chiang Mai to start off the first day of 2018. I just wanted to do a quick re-cap of the last foods I ate in Phuket to end 2017 early! It’s weird, even though I celebrated New Year’s Eve in Thailand, I feel like it’s not my real countdown yet until America has its turn. Last night felt like just another festival to me and oh boy, last night was crazy. Yesterday was crazy altogether!
Actually everyday has been a crazy day. So let’s see.. what did I eat on the last day of 2017.. Hmm.. we woke up early morning to grab breakfast before our island hopping tour. There wasn’t much open at 630am so we resorted to an Indian restaurant. There are actually a lot of Indian people in Phuket so we decided to see what they’re all about.
The first dish is a spicy chicken rice, which I don’t remember what it’s called. It was spicy and full of herbs. It was also very good!
We ate the rice with chicken tikka masala and theirs look different from what I’ve eaten in America. The sauce is a much darker red and less buttery.
We also stopped by a dim sum stand to get some buns for the road!
This is a picture of the cart run by a little old lady! A lot of people were buying buns. They put the buns in these little plastic bags! Great and convenient for on the go! The white steamed buns were the bbq pork buns and the orange buns were just a plain sweet bun.
Yay for our buns! This was exciting for me!
On our speed boat tour while island hopping, the people gave us little pastry desserts.
This little flower pastry had sweet pineapple filling inside that was sweet and sticky.
This is a sweet little donut with some kind of raisin inside.
During our lunch buffet, they offered a variety of traditional Thai dishes. We ate this on one of the smaller islands where there are people who live there. It was kind of sad to see the poor parts of Thailand.
My plate consisted a little of everything from the buffet: some thin noodles, white rice, fried rice, chicken, fried fish fillets, and vegetables!
And a plate of fresh fruit from the island!
At night time before New Year’s Eve countdown, my friends and I decided to bar hop and street food hop! It was already insanely crazy even at 6pm! So many people were getting ready for the new year with yummy street food! There were street food vendors and carts and everything!
Got us some fried chicken spring rolls, which were delicious!
Some bbq pork ribs!
This fried chicken was THE BOMB from all the vendors! So soft and tender and juicy.
Chicken and tofu pad Thai.
More bbq pork ribs from another vendor!
Some fried rice!
And happy new year again! We eventually ventured to the Patong beach shores and did the countdown while splashing the shores!
And now to start the year off in Chiang Mai.
